I know I didn't invent this idea, but why hasn't anyone realized that a significant number of half-baked musicians didn't get the joke and marketed an amp that goes to 11? This could be an instant classic piece of rock-n-roll gear that every amateur guitar player that has sat bleary-eyed and cottonmouthed
in front of a screening of Spinal Tap would rush out and purchase.
Spinal Tap A to Zed: Eleven
http://www.chiprowe...atozed/TAP00160.HTM You can get Marshalls that go to 11, but I think both sellers and buyers get the joke just fine. [jutta, Sep 26 2000]
(?) More bread, please.

As a result, Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap (endearingly played by Christopher Guest) plays guitar louder than any other band on earth. Probably why their drummers tend to spontaneously combust on stage...... |
Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder? |
You won't have to rent it , they are rereleasing it in all it's hi-fi stereophonic glory for a new generation. |
There were actually more than one Spinal Tap movie. Unfortunately I've forgotten the title of the second one (the original movie was 'This Is Spinal Tap') but it took place just after the events in the first movie. |

For *real* Spinal Tap fans, there's "Break Like The Wind", the band's 1992 release which was voted the Worst Album of the year (by someone). The CD's pretty hilarious, and there are dozens of world-class musicians that guest on it, including Waddy Wachtel, Jeff Beck, and Dweezil Zappa. |
There's also Tapster. See the link at left- 'nuff said. |

What is more amusing is that Gibson (or Jackson, can't remember which) have released Spinal Tap Nigel Tuffnell specials with volume and tone controls which go to 11, as well as 4 double humbucking pickups. There are various other outrageous knobs, bells and whistles just to keep everyone happy. |

Some Fender amps go up to 12. No joking. |
hmmm lets go up to 20 and make some REAL rock music |
Marshall actually did make their JCM900 series of amps go up to 20. They also used Nigel Tufnel in the print ads, saying "this goes up to 20. that's 9 louder, iddnit?" |

Once, many years ago, while putting a simple cascaded preamp/master volume control mod in an old Marshall 50W head, I realized that since two of the knobs had been repurposed I needed to redo the panel lettering. So, while I was at it, I changed the max number on what was now the preamp gain control from a "10" to an "11". |
So, I know there's at least one amp out there that really does go to 11. |
eleven is now my favourite number - cooler than 3 |

baked in 1984 by Nigel Tufnell of Spinal Tap |

Why not an ST 12 amplifier? |
Soldano valve heads in the late 90's went up to 11... |
