Rube's Cube
And you thought a Rubik's Cube was difficult... | |
Erno Rubik's classic puzzle toy, as we all fondly remember, is a plastic cube composed of 3x3x3 multi-colored faces that can be shifted around a central pivot mechanism. A Rube's Cube, by contrast, is slightly more complex (and not safe for children). Rather than using your hands to directly manipulate
the faces of the cube, you must experiment with the elaborately interconnected assortment of gears, balls, pulleys, canaries, boiling teapots, fans, dominoes, ropes, strings, railings, and paper airplanes that are all networked in tenuous and absurdly convoluted ways to the cube. While the world record for solving a Rubik's Cube is 7.08 seconds (held by the Dutchman, Erik Akkersdijk), a Rube's Cube has never been solved in less than a week (and even then, we're pretty sure the guy cheated by moving the stickers around).
