Large countries like India, the USA and China, have many diverse parts, with different environmental and social conditions predominating in each province. Let's empower consumers with the information on specific province of origin on goods from large countries. Then consumers could, for example, favor products from Kerala State in India, where successful coalition governments have approached or bested USA life expectancy, infant mortality and adult literacy rates.

The Kito clan's wardrobe is exclusively Kerala State. http://i48.tinypic.com/smgidw.jpg
... except for my undershorts. Those are, of course, from Yap. Kerala's are just too itchy. [Amos Kito, Apr 19 2008, last modified Dec 07 2012]

Let's label everything with the exact global coordinates of where it was created. That would make everything better.

       I'm sick of reading labels.

I just checked with the staff, and all of our groceries are already labelled in this way, often right down to the estate where they were bottled.

Are you also going to include the statistical data that goes along with the province of origin information. Just off the top of my head I don't know one Indian province from another and if I did I wouldn't know which is the better producer of a particular product.

Pretty well baked for even smaller countries like France (Burgundy, Cotes du Rhone...) and Italy (Val d'Aosta...).
Sadly, it doesn't work too well for Cheddar cheese.

[Noexit] I think that would be an equivalent of just labeling some items as "Good", and some as "Bad" and perhaps some as "Fair". And I think I'd like that.

Kerala State has a life expectancy at birth of 73, which beats out mississippi and district of columbia, but is less then 48 other states (or provinces) of the USA.

So consumers really should favor products from Hawaii or Minnesota, instead of looking overseas at places that mirror the worst the US has to offer.
mylodon, Apr 22 2008

Nobody makes anything in Minnesota, except money.

       They make scotch tape.
mylodon, Apr 22 2008

...but not nearly as foreign as Lancashire.
DrCurry, Apr 22 2008

Furthermore the very worst the US has to offer goes largely unmirrored, thank goodness.
Texticle, Apr 22 2008

       So cranky, Texticle.

[Ian Tindale] You can have them ship you scotch tape.

I'm having some tobbacco shipped to me. Mmm. Tobacco. I bought enough to take a bath in.

In fact, Tobacco is designated by provinces, I discovered. I'm getting Virginia Tobacco, instead of, say, Kentucky.

I didn't shop around for Kerala tobacco, though. Maybe I should have.
