PopCraft Moulded Popcorn Machine

An unfortunate accident (attributable solely to operator incompetence) and the usual exaggerations put about by the media have meant that MaxCo. has had to delay the official launch of our PopCraft industrial popcorn-moulding equipment.

Howevertheless, I felt it incumbent upon me to reveal this miraculous machine to you, my steamed halfbakery colleagues.

The heart of the PopCraft machine is a series of steel plates, each with many small, intricately-formed recesses. As the plates are moved along a conveyer, a single grain of popping corn is deposited in each recess, along with a small squirt of vegetable oil. A second plate, also with recesses, is then clamped securely on the first, enclosing each kernel in its own small chamber.

The paired plates then pass over a gas flame, timed precisely to pop the enclosed kernels. When the plates are opened further down the line, a perfectly-formed popcorn teddybear falls from each recess.

Alternative plate sets can produce miniature edible platonic solids, perfect popcorn spheres, or tiny simulacra of the Statue of Liberty. The possibilities are unlimitless.

       Could you have a teddy on one side and a lady liberty on the other ? Must it be symmetrical on a line or no.

       ////vegetable oil// sp. butter//

       Wrongo. Popcorn should be popped in an oil with a high smoke-point. Once it's popped, it should of course be tossed in melted butter and a little salt.

       //Could you have a teddy on one side and a lady liberty on the other ?// I think that would only work if you had the teddy striking a Saturday Night Fever pointing pose.

       [+] I'm not sure it would work but it's certainly worth half a cornbread croissant.

       (hmm... if the kernel was etched...)

       Could you use focussed magnetrons and/or lasers to force a shaped explosion by selective heating?

       I'll have mine in the shape of a giant Lego, please.
