When a passenger airliner goes down why can't the passengers be in a separate self contained compartment with bulkheads like a sub or a ship. When the plane goes down there are small charges that separate this compartment from the rest of the plane. This would act as a pod that would include the cabin
of course and would have big parachutes to come out when it detaches from the rest of the plane so people could take the slow way down. This could also contain the black box so they wouldn't get lost like at 9/11...

most plane crashes happen during normal
takeoffs and landings. |

The statistics do not matter to those at thirty thousand feet with leaking fuel or loss of power. (+) |
