If you own a pickup truck then you know that the surest way to get a drink is to park it... anywhere... any time. Within 10 minutes, 15 at most, the vehicle will be surrounded by guys leaning on it and drinking beer, chewing the fat/pork rinds.

But I think you could cut the average time down to 5 minutes if the truck were equipped with proper bar footrails, one on each side of the truck bed, extending through (outside) the wheelwells, and one under the bumper.

well... not "restore" restore as in bring to original specs, but I'd love to have a 30's-40's p/u I could toss a small diesel and a decent stereo into (and seat belts and anti-lock brakes, proper windshield wipers, air conditioning, a custom tonneau cover that would match, etc.)

//tonneau// highway mileage... sweeter would be an aero-shell, matched to the styling.

Coming from the pick-up capital of the world (how else do we carry all the old rubber tyres and protesters around?), thought I would provide you with some examples - See link.

P.S. They are really good at making the backs of your legs dirty.

[Ling] not passenger-section rails, rails around the box. Stepside is pretty close, but the ones pictured (and remembered) don't go 'round the tailgate and certainly don't extend 'round the wheels.

... you could tuck them in, but quite a few modern pickups are too big for them anyways.
