We solve this problem for our kiddies by having very low wattage lighting on at night time. It means that you can see the moment you open your eyes, without stumbling over Lego, etc only to have your retinas scarred by sudden influx of 60W. It isn't particularly environmentally friendly though. |

However, I'm not sure I'd like to sleep in radioactive pyjamas. As someone said in a recent conversation - how 50s. |

the advice sometime ago was to keep very young children's bedroom completely dark, as a small night light could affect the vision. not sure if this advice is still valid. |

My son has PJs that are partialy phosphorescent. They have glowing bones on them. |

You can get flexible electroluminescent strips which are made into safety harnesses for cyclists. Add a couple of thin lithium polymer batteries and you'd glow all night long. Add solar panels so you can automatically recharge your pyjamas during the day !! |

Night lights aren't that environmentally bad, 10w is plenty. Which over a whole night is less than my computer wastes on the 1/2 bakery in a 1/2 hour.
Or get one of those daggy solar power garden lights & put it in a plant pot & bring it in at night. |

pfperry: "Daggy" .... what's "daggy" ?? |

I'm not sure phosphorescence (or anykind of light, for that matter) could simultaneously be bright enough to light one's way and dim enough not to keep one awake, atleast not a PJ shirt. Maybe if just the bottoms or the slippers glow (although I'm sure glow-in-the-dark slippers are at least half-baked). |

I recently saw an advertisement for a very low-wattage, flourescent "candle" with a delicate oblong shape that fit four to the rechargeable base. When you pick them up from the base, they come on, and you can carry them around, and they will sit upright on the back of the john.. |

Don't know why I brought that up, except that I was extremely annoyed that I hadn't thought of it first. |
