Phosphorescent catalysis
Phosphorescent things absorb energy and release it over minutes or hours; that means electron orbitals are rechargably modified for hours. Coat molecules of phosphor with a catalyst, possibly cobalt, so that the photonic stimulation (and differing electron levels) makes the catalyst more active, and for a longer duration. | |
if a catalyst is made part of a phospherescent molecule
then the durable elevation of electron orbitals could
beneficially effect the catalyst atom (like Co or Pt). At
least I think it would do something.
Tuning the effect of a catalyst: combining modified
electron orbitals from phosphorescence
could possibly
creates a longer "intermediate" state between the
catalyzing molecules. Also, phosphorescent chemicals
are
available in a variety of emission wavelengths, some of
them blue, so higher energy orbitals might be possible.
So the very phosphorescent strontium aluminate [link]
coated with a few atoms thick of cobalt might make
cobalt
a tunable effect catalyst from the phosphorescence
lingering electron effect. Getting more catalysis from
potentially rare catalyst elements.
strontium aluminate. It glows, and it's in toys!

This is actually an interesting idea, [beany]. |
|
|
The closest thing I can think of is the chlorophyll complex in
photosynthesis, where an electron is bounced out by light and
then gets handed around, going downhill through several
other molecules and doing work as it goes. But that's not
really phosphorescence, since the timescale is too short. |

Ah yes, Electric Ian. Wasn't that the one that had all the
tracks from Electric Ian on it? |
|
|
Nice, designing a strong molecular song and dance number will always be desirable. |
|
|
Because of course you want your kids to ingest all the cobalt
and strontium that they can get? |
|
|
OK, [Ian], I just bought your album. Finally, you can consider
buying that cup of tea you've always wanted. |
|

What's he done with the pound we gave him, then ? He asked for a pound for a cup of tea, we gave him one and told him to go and bother someone else. |
