Perfect Hair Cut Duplicator

An optically-guided device to keep a flawless cut

Now, this does require that you begin with a good cut, but once you've got it you can keep it forever.

Imagine a free-standing cone shaped unit that you place over your well shorn head. It would use mild suction to draw your hair straight up. a computer chip would optically scan your now straight hair and store the info.

When you feel it's time for a trim, put your head back in, turn on the suction, select "Cut" from the menu and the device will slowly move into your desired cut's position—cutting all the way.

As styles change, you can store other new cuts or have the whole family's cuts stored.

Sorry Steve, I didn't make the "standing up" part clear. The suction would cause your hair (straight or curly) to stand up for either scanning or cutting. Wouldn't this be the ideal way to get a true duplication of the original cut? No matter what, the hair cut woul be a dead-on copy of your favorite cut when the suction is removed.

Digitizing my head on my best hair day--Hmm, I like. It has a certain Max Headroom quality about it...

Does one sit in the corner with cone on head?

<-- In the last anno on the Auto-barber link, I suggested suction for measuring and cutting.

// have the whole family's cuts stored. //

And twins can easily confuse the world by swapping haircuts in a few seconds. Neat.

You can't really do the sides this way.

I'm absolutely certain sure I've seen this exact idea here before. Maybe it got deleted by accident/someone running away?

Surely this should be a "perfect haircut replicator".

Croissant though, I've been trying for years to replicate the haircut I had in the summer of '98. Boy, was that a great haircut....<sigh>....halcyon days.

As has been pointed out, a straight-up vacuum will not work well for the near-vertical sides of the head.

What's needed is some way of making all of the hair stand out orthogonally. The solution, as with so many things in life, is Very High Voltage.

The MaxCo. Wimshurst OrthoClip haircutter will not only ensure that the hair achieves scalp- wide orthogonality, but as a bonus, the trimming is done by a simple discharge electrode which simultaneously vaporizes the excess hair and seals the ends - no more split ends, no more loss of vital orgone energy through cut hair termini.

An interesting side-effect of these systems is that, if the haircutting chamber were wide enough, you could create a perfect haircut, but offset by half an inch from your head. This would provide much amusement, especially if extended to encompass moustaches (or, for the men, moustache plus beard).

Equally, the software could be used in a similar way to Photoshop. You could copy-'n'-paste an Elvis on the front, and maybe a Justin Beeper on the back.
