A flash, a bang, and a plausible denial …

New from BorgCo, made from plastic or papier-mache and ranging from life size down to about 100mm tall, these papal effigies are accurate depictions of the pontiff of your choice.

Just get a couple of the Cardinals lurking in the shadows to pull the strings, and the low-yield pyrotechnic gas generator (basically an airbag cartridge) fires, blowing off the mitre and discharging a welter of streamers, mottoes, and biretta-shaped paper hats.

Mottoes available in Latin, French, Polish, Italian or German (extracts from Mein Kampf) depending on Pope.

Some versions scatter toys and candy designed to attract children*.

*Not suitable for under-18s due to persistant rumours of sexual abuse.

If it is indeed a "poper" then shouldn't it "pope" the party? I am imagining a plain box that shoots out crowns and staffs for the partygoers to catch.

"Canem mihil nunquam proboscis habent …"

Of course, nowhere near as powerful as Britain's great pre-War Joke, used by Chamberlain at Munich …
