In this day and age, a lot of people are down on their luck. Some mad, others sad, all sick of the bad things in our world today. But, like a wise man once said, "Laughter is the best medicine". And lots of men and women have become good doctors if you know what I mean. Jim Carrey, Whoopi Goldberg, Eddie
Murphy, Robin Williams, Drew Carey, Caroline Rhea, Jerry Seinfeld, Richard Jeni, Adam Sandler, Fran Dresher and Mike Myers, and I'm just getting warmed up. But only one guy can poke fun at society thru song and make it good. That man is Weird Al Yankovic. His sense of humour is one-of-a-kind and funny as hell. And for anyone who wathched his movie, "UHF", you all know what I mean. So, in the sprit of Al's satiric sense of humour, I bring you PARODYTV!
A 24-hour variety channel that's nothing but satire! Already popular shows like "This Hour has 22 Minutes" and "Royal Canadian Air Farce" in Canada, "MADtv" and "Saturday Night Live" in the U.S. Plus, movies like "The Naked Gun" and "UHF" will play on Saturday nights. Other TV shows, produced live at a TV stations, will poke fun at famous TV series. Like...
"Ennemies" (parody of "Friends")
*"Wheel of Fish (parody of "Wheel of Fortune")
"STOOO-PID!" (parody of "Jeopardy!")
*"The Lice is Right" (parody of "The Price is Right")
*ESPN's "Wide World of Tractor Pulls" (parody of "Wide World of Sports")
"Sabrina the Teenage Fish" (parody of "Sabrina the Teenage Witch")
*"Name That Stain" (parody of "Name That Tune")
*"Those Darn Homos!" (I'm not sure what it is a parody of, but I'm guessing "The Brady Bunch")
Well, that's my idea. Enjoy.
P.S. All shows marked with a asterisk (*) are from the movie "UHF".

The guy who said laughter si the best medecien never met anyone with a burst appendix. |
The shows sugested would only have a very short shelf life simply because they are parody's of existing shows. Eventually, they would becoem shows of their own, and they themselves would be parodied. |
If Al Yankovic's sense of humour is so unique, then why do people find him funny? Ha, got you there! |
Besides, anyone who creates music videos is commiting a crime to everybody born with an attention span. |
Isn't "unique" an absolute term? |
It sounds like one of those things that would attract much interest and fanfare at the beginning and then come to a grinding halt as people stopped watching it. Things like this tend to get old quickly. |
I'd like to see a UHF-type basic cable channel in my lineup. Nobody said the shows would stay the same - they can evolve and change, just as the originals do. Basically, I see this as a comedy channel, but with a specific style to its humour. |
The only problem is that this idea dangles dangerously near to a WTCTTISITMWIBNIIWR. I'll croissant this one anyway, though, because it's entirely possible to do. |
Hey, any ideas on what kinds of commercials we'll see on this channel? |
[ sctld ]: //If Al Yankovic's sense of humour is so unique, then why do people find him funny? Ha, got you there!// |
Your statement doesn't make sense. A *unique* sense of humour is what it takes to make our cynical "been-there-done-that" world laugh. Logically, then, it only makes sense for people to find him funny. |
I shall relay bristolz much more elequently put phrase |
'Isn't "unique" an absolute term?' |
Hence, his phrase doesn't make sense. |
[ sctld ], sure "unique" is an absolute term. Weird Al is definitely unique. His sense of humour is unique. He is an original. Uniqueness in humor helps make it funny, as in unique juxtapositioning. Where do we disagree? |
If his snese of humour is uniqe, i.e. what he finds funny, then that shirley would mean that no-one else would find what he finds funny funny. And thus no-one would have the same sense of humour as him and laugh. |
I'm just being a penickity. |
Shirley you realize that just because a halfbaked idea is unique and original to the creator, that does not shirley mean that no one will like it or relate to it. |
I'm reffering to the paradox of someone having a unique sense of humour and yet being popular because of it. You could fuck his idea to the moon and back, i don't care, it still won't take away that quirk in the english language. And that is what we were debating, 'twas it not? |
We're obviously not on the same wavelength here. You're talking about fucking ideas to the moon and such and insisting uniqueness implies some kind of inability of others to relate to it. |
Allz I'm saying is that, well, there is no paradox in this case. Besides, we're off topic - comment on the idea. |
Putting the off-topic debate to rest, with more exact language. |
No one would appreciate or laugh at Weird Al Yankovic, if he had a unique _sense of humor_. |
Pay attention to the phrase. "Sense of humor" means that which strikes a person as funny. If only he found the things funny that he does, no one would laugh. Therefor, sctld is correct. |
So Weird Al does not have a unique "sense of humor". However, he may well have a unique comedic ability. I think perhaps he does. Perhaps he even has a rare wit. His sense of humor however is not unique by any means. Much to his good fortune. |
Thankyou! See, i need elequence. |
Others, would of course, see him as a whining shit. |
this debate reeks of sctld
baiting homer so that he can
prove to us just how clever he
is. homer's choice of phrase,
"unique sense of humor" was
perfectly clear the first time
i read it. "sense of humor" is
an idiomatic phrase. this
means that, if you put those
words together, they don't
necessarily mean what they mean
when separate. |
i tend to agree that the
novelty would wear this channel
out quickly, but it's a nice
idea and deserves a croissant. |
I'm not baiting, i'm baptising. And its not to 'prove to us just how clever he is' (that shouldn't need proving), its because he's nto even going to read the comments. To him, this site is about putting up and idea, and then dissapearing. Its about posting on and pissing off. |
Besides, this is clearly an idea stolen from Yankovic himself, as professed by the poster 'Thank you, Al Yankovic...', and 'All shows marked with a asterisk (*) are from the movie "UHF".', thus the idea is not original to the poster, and should be marked for deletion. But since its gone this far, i think a good batism is enough. |
Besides, i didn't even vote against the idea. |

4 days ago, Serenka posted something about "the kinds of commercials we'll see on this channel." Well, once again, the commercials and promos from "UHF" are a lock to be on a TV channel such as this one. There could be infomercial parodies or parodies of those telephone-lawyer services. Something like : "Have you ever gotten brainfreeze? Have you ever watched bad TV? Lawyer Bernard Shaprio can get you the money you deserve from the ice cream company or TV station." |
Over here in the UK we used to have this show called 'Monty Pythons Flying Circus' <sarcasm>(you may have heard of it)</sarcasm>. If you get a chance watch a couple of episodes, you will find many parodies on programs such as news and current affairs, sporting events, gameshows, and films. I've added a link to the scripts. |
Yo, Zircon. Yeah, I know of the Flying Circus. It plays on a Canadian comedy cable channel. I also once saw the parrot sketch on SNL one. it was John Cleese and I forget the other guy's name. Enlighten me, please. |

Go rent some movies/dvds. |

In the late 70s there was a one-time television special on called "The TV Show", which because of its very generic name, is near impossible to find anything on the net regarding. Anyway, the premise of the show was watching constantly changing channels, and the ensuing snippets of programs, all of them fictional. Bits of sitcoms, dramas, variety shows, lots of fake commercials.. |
I remember some of the names involved. Rob Reiner and Billy Crystal - as well, one of the fictional shows was a couple of minutes of a live rock music show, obviously a parody of "Midnight Special" with a Wolfman Jack like host. The musical guest on the show was "Spinal Tap" - their first appearance anywhere. {Link.} |
