After you've dispelled the Santa myth, it's time to give the kid a bath.

The ocean is filled with many a wonderful thing, and a great way for a child to learn about them is by playing with them in the bathtub. Ocean Flotsam Bath Toys is a realistic-looking collection of objects your child might encounter if he or she were adrift somewhere in, say, the South Indian Equatorial Current. Packaged in a long-lasting plastic shopping bag, your world-wise child will be thrilled to find, not the typical clownfish or penguin, but bottles, syringes, dead seabirds entangled in fishing nets, and more (all play-safe rubber replicas, of course).

       Might as well introduce them to the world as it is.

       illuminated, or on fire?

       Question: would you manufacture new ocean flotsam bath toys or would you collect them? And when the soft rubber ocean flotsam bath toys show up in the ocean, does Shamu start to cry?

       "Flotsam is floating wreckage of a ship or its cargo." (Wikipedia). So some of the things in your list are likely not, technically, flotsam. This came up on a Q.I. episode.

       Yes, many of the items mentioned are in fact components of the 'Jetsam Upgrade Kit', sold separately.

       //not, technically, flotsam//

In the age of global trade & container ships, I'd hazard a guess that most things have been ship's cargo at some point.
DrBob, Jan 15 2012

       I don't think having once been ship's cargo is enough. It has to go directly into the sea from the ship, as a result of wreckage. It's a legal term, used specifically to distinguish from things that ended up in the sea in other ways - such as being thrown overboard, or washed out to sea from the shore.

       Which, somebody correct me if I'm wrong, are collectively known as 'jetsam'.
