Neutral Buoyancy Submarine Toys In Water Bottles

Make water fun.

Imagine if, in your favorite bottled water, there would be a small neutral buoyancy submarine toy! Because of its neutral buoyancy characteristics, the submarine would essentially hover somewhere around the middle of your bottle. The most exciting part of this is, when you squeeze the bottle, the increased pressure would cause the toy submarine to dive to the bottom.

As far as being a "choking hazard" , I don’t feel the danger would be any greater than swallowing an ice cube, which most of us can handle. The submarines would also be collectable, from the Bushnell Turtle submarine to current day L.A. class nuclear submarines (even usable in the tub or a sink after bottle use).

**swallowing one of these may even produce hilarious results in the toilet after digestion cycle is complete.**

You can get around the choking hazard by making the submarine larger than the bottle's neck, or at least the water nozzle.
DrCurry, Nov 13 2003

Yea, but that it would be hard to remove and save them. I also made them neutrally buoyant to avoid it getting stuck and restricting flow of the water.
FeelinPhine, Nov 13 2003

[DrCurry] I suppose then you would have to build the submarine inside of the bottle, rather than dropping it into the bottle.
Condiment, Nov 13 2003

Not necessarily. And you could always join the bottle together from two halves.
DrCurry, Nov 13 2003

Or start a new hobby... there’s already ship building in bottles.
FeelinPhine, Nov 13 2003

Just have a flexible skirt on it. This will allow it to be forced in and out of the bottle with a little push or tug. Have holes in the skirt so that even if it is in the way you won't block flow.

Am I crazy, or have we done this before (with me adding the same annotation)? I searched but couldn't find it.

Just pondering the type of idea that might cause Worldgineer to write, "Just have a flexible skirt on it. This will allow it to be forced in and out of the bottle with a little push or tug. Have holes in the skirt so that even if it is in the way you won't block flow."

Other than this one, that is.
st3f, Nov 13 2003

Even if you swallowed it, it would just float in the middle of your stomach. I doubt that that would cause much blockage.
phundug, Nov 13 2003

[st3f] Please avoid comments that make me laugh uncontrollably at work. Oh, and see my (link) - this wasn't a full idea before, just some annotations.
Worldgineer, Nov 13 2003

Hmm, im trying to picture this "skirt"... will it come in my size?
FeelinPhine, Nov 13 2003

How would the little submarine know which way is up? (Not a problem for spheres - link).
half, Nov 13 2003

[FP} No. Not unless you can fit into a bottle. It doesn't matter how you picture the skirt, as long it's somewhat flexible (but still holds it's shape), and it's diameter is a bit larger than the most narrow point of the bottle. I'm picturing something with about the dimensions of quarter, but thin, plastic, and with holes.

[half] Just make it heavier on one side.
Worldgineer, Nov 13 2003

+ But I'd prefer a rubber duck myself.
Mistress Bling, Nov 13 2003

The Turtle was in fact a sphere (new link)

In the tower of the submarine there would be an air pocket (this is pocket would right the sub, and compress when squeezed, decreasing buoyancy and allowing the sub to dive).
FeelinPhine, Nov 13 2003

(Ms.Bling) I thought about that...the object could be anything really. I would feel bad if the duck were to drown though (it would never be on the surface)
FeelinPhine, Nov 13 2003

Baked since I was a kid in school (back in the 'early' 60''s) <link>
Klaatu, Nov 13 2003

If it's a carbonated beverage it would dive and float repeatedly, which would work well for a duck.

[Kla] The concept is baked, but not a marketed product.
Worldgineer, Nov 13 2003

(Klaatu) the science is there, but without science everything would be a "magic wand". The innovative idea is the key.
FeelinPhine, Nov 13 2003

I had a blueberry beer a few weeks ago, which included a handful of blueberries tossed in. They rose and sank delightfully. The beer was delicious. (link to review added)
waugsqueke, Nov 13 2003

I take it you didn't choke on them?
DrCurry, Nov 13 2003

And more importantly, did they have skirts?
Worldgineer, Nov 13 2003

       No, and no.
waugsqueke, Nov 13 2003

Actually, a toy very similar to this was done back when I was a kid in the 70's. The toy was basically a squeezable water bottle with a small submarine inside with a hook attached to the bottom. The idea was to sqeeze the bottle to grab small "treasures" on the bottom with the hook which would then float to the top with the sub when you released the bottle. It was actually one of my favorite toys.
