Movie Bands

Hey, every other kind of merchandise comes out with movies...

For every huge summer blockbuster that the soulless production companies promote, why not have a band that tours during the duration of the movie’s popularity under the same name? It’d be nice to lynch the Spider-Man band.

(It’s my private prejudice that the movie sucked. Obviously.) On the other hand, I could really rock out to Minority Report or The Bourne Identity. The band members could dress up as characters from the movie and perform songs inspired by the movie, as well as the soundtrack. It’s a whole new kind of media: the movie band.

<obligatory "I thought this idea was going to be about"> I thought this idea was going to be about using wrist bands to prioritize your admittance to movie theatres when hot new releases come out. Shucks!

Despite the fact that this idea started out sounding like a rant, I do find it interesting. Not interesting enough to vote in favor, though. For example, I have a little trouble picturing what kind of band they would use for a movie like The Piano. And I would definitely have hard time taking a band seriously when they are dressed up like characters from any Power Rangers movie.

The "Anger Management" tour featured Eminem and Ludacris last year.

ladies and gentlemen, we now present the alternative dixieland sounds of Gone with the wind, and their hit song, "got the bonnie blues"

Are there not enough artificial bands already?

I don't like it, but I'm voting for it.

Oh christ no. Nooooo. The music industry already sucks enough lately. Now you want me to deal with crappy musicians in costumes? Isn't the ICP bad enough?

Precisely. I agree. All of it. I have to admit, I posted the idea with a certain amount of cynicism.

Update--the cast members of "Spy Kids 3" baked the idea at the premiere.

Every movie wouldn't be required to have a band. Although, when a sub-quality movie does come out, with a budget enough to cover the tour expenses, we would just have more white noise clogging up the minds of our ignorant youth, and aged alike.

Which would be more successful? The movie, the band or the reality show for selecting the band members?

Imagine attending a concert by Hans Zimmer or Yann Tiersen or Danny Elfman. Not all musicians that do music for movies "sucks", it depends on the movie. Hanna Montana or High School Musical would have bands proper for audience of that age, while The Spawn and Hellboy may have Metal bands and Electronic DJs touring. That would bring new sources of income to the bands, not only licensing a song for a movie, and also, Hollywood makes enough money to have a band touring and they sure can benefit from concert ticket sales along with theater ticket sales.
