Moon Darts
Target the Moon and launch retrievable landers at it | |
Moon darts is a game that is played between two wealthy space exploration enthusiasts. The goal is to launch your darts, (that is, your lunar landers), at craters on the surface of the Moon in waves of three. The diameter of a crater determines its point value. Once it's established that the lander
has made a safe landing, it is ordered to take off and return home. If the lander can't be retrieved, then it doesn't score any points. Once you've retrieved your darts, you get to go to the bar and have a drink with your crew, intermittently inebriating yourself just as you would if you were playing terrestrial darts. The first team to reduce its score to zero wins a token prize.
The goal of this exercise is to provide a fun way to develop the technology for routine manned missions to the Moon. Humans just love to gawk at silicate deposits, and we evidently don't have enough of those here on Earth.

This is an excellent idea. |

//Humans just love to gawk at silicate deposits//, indeed. |

Careful you don't hit any moon men on the head, or
someone will come and outlaw them just like the lawn darts
were. |
How loosely is "home" defined? Does it need to come down on the front lawn without disturbing the peacocks? Or will the South Atlantic suffice? |
Do the landers have a brilliant ping so night goers of the world can check score? |
We tried playing lawn darts on your moon. Unfortunately, due to the absence of atmosphere, the flights had no effect, so we went back to throwing rocks. |

Pitching horseshoes is fun in 0.16 g though. |
You'd better get back up there quick - souvenir hunters have had all the good bits off the LEMs and the rovers, and what's left is covered in graffiti... |

Defaced? It was on eBay last October. |
It's your own fault. Leaving stuff lying around like that ... what did you expect ? |

Incidentally, has anyone noticed all the craters on
the moon? I suspect that this idea has been baked by
an ancient civilisation. |
