When getting replacement teeth why not offer a time saving solution? Why provide the gaps in the teeth when they only can be filled with food? Instead offer a single monotooth that provides a single, smooth biting surface. It would be like regular teeth, except completely connected.

Some advantages would be easy cleaning. With a smooth uniform surface you could use a squeegee, instead of a toothbrush. You would also be able to make perfectly circular bites in a sandwich.

       Why not, indeed. Outstanding idea.

I want mine made out of sharpened steel. Oh, and I want a chainmail tounge protector.

Thanks jutta! I wish halfbakery had a spell checker!

Turtles have this feature, and you never see them at the dentist.

It would also appear to minimize nail-biting and teeth grinding at the cost of causing enormous difficulty with corn-on-the-cob, and dealing with the manipulation of seeds such as sunflower, watermelon, cherry, etc., and small bones in meat and fish. I suppose if you were fully dentured, you could choose the set of teeth for the task.

[zero], most regular bakers here usually use a cheap text editor or word processor, spell-check, and then copy-paste. Saves time online.

when [angel] says outstanding, does he mean overbite?

I'm sure Barney has regular teeth.

//But how would one whistle?// In monotone?

Why not? Probably because it would look unnatural and stupid.

The alien in "Enemy Mine" had a single dental ridge.

//Such onetoothiasm! But how would one whistle?//
Thus finally explaining to me my peculiar disability.

<Lauren Bacall voice> You know how to whistle, don't you? You just put your lips together and blow. </Lauren Bacall voice>

My husband can't even watch that scene for the desire he feels for Lauren or, at least, her character.
bristolz, Jul 11 2003

Amazing, because she said later that she was so stiff with Bogart fright that she had to lean against a wall (or was it a door?) to do the scene without falling over.

This appears to have lost its buns in The Great Crash. Here's one be getting on with. Sterling idea!

I was about to post this self same idea. Monoteeth could be offered when installing dental implants. If not all the teeth are replaced at once, no problem. Progressively wider gapless teeth can be fitted onto the existing titanium pegs each time a new peg is installated, culminating in a single ubertooth in each jaw.
MaxwellBuchanan, Dec 06 2018

Presumably if you repeatedly extend the upper and lower monoteeth until you have only eight of your natural teeth remaining, you'll then be decadent ?

       Should be called Duotooth, shureley?
