I have looked for this sort of thing, and whilst I would quite happily stand corrected its a very simple idea (and one that I haven't seen before). Through ignorance misfortune or just damn rudeness Mobile phones will go off. in the Cinema, in the theatre, the library.. there are quite literally many
many places where these things are a menace. So my proposal is simple Similar to the system in nightclubs where you book your jacket in, you book your mobile in. (For especially public places like libraries you are asked on entering "do you have a mobile phone". lying and getting caught elicits a charge <of course!>) you hand over your mobile and.. say ooohhh 30 pence (about 50 cents) and it is safely looked after by a person who's job it is to know and maintain the mobiles in his/her care. It stays safe it stays easily locatabe and it stays out of earshot!! I havent posted in ages and I am rusty .. this may sound like a rant ... and .. well... it is (a little) but if this hasnt been implemented I dont see any major reasons why it couldnt work... P.S. flame/deride away thats what I am here for :)

Sounds like a hat check/cloakroom, but those usually go out of their way to state that they are not responsible for valuables. You probably want something more like a locker room. |

well originally I thought of a Mobile phone deposit box.. but it just seemed way too messy..... |

May I (deride)? This idea sucks. |

Really, I was at the movies yesterday and no phones went off, although it does happen sometimes. This service sort of exists in the form of "Get voice mail and shut the damn thing off." Maybe cell phones could just have on-board answering machines. |

Or pay a service charge to a Mobile Phone/ Cell Phone Nanny? Is that the next logical step of this idea? Do the phones get activities to keep them busy? Charging privileges? |

polartomato I understand this doesnt happen *all* the time and there are people out there who consciously turn them off but there are also people who need A) reminding and B) the occasional slap in the right direction, I am glad that you are not plagued by these infernal contraptions but where I live seems to be a haven of poeple who simply forget/dont care they have thier mob's with them. Its not that all mobile phones need burning.. just that they need a little reminding thats all. |

The reminder in a cinema consists of a Theater Sniper |
|
|
Cloak inside of theater / restaurant / library with microwave absorbent metal- If the phone doesn't work, it won't be ringing, and nobody will be making calls anyway. |
|
|
Helpful hint: As long as you don't laugh, the guy 3 rows in front of you on the phone can't tell who threw the half full coke at his head |

There's a mention somewhere else on here that a theatre somewhere (I'm having a vague day today) takes patrons' cell-phones and offers to take messages. |

there is a device on the market that can detect mobile when people go near it so i think it's the best way to solve our problem.
something similar to the custom but it's just a tiny machine like your suitcase. |
