Such a simple concept I can't believe this doesn't exist. Slim heating elements that go in that snug space *behind* the ears, like those curved behind-ear headphones that hook over the top (see link for example).
Kinda like this
https://www.cellxpo...N_IUURoCWRQQAvD_BwE But instead of (or perhaps in addition to) audio, these would be heated to keep your ears warmed from behind [21 Quest, Nov 26 2023]

With enough power and a medical waiver you could heat earbuds from your smartphone. |
Probably would heat your head more than it would your ears, I'm guessing. |

If the top and sides are insulated so the warmest part of the behind-the-ear piece is the bottom curving upward toward the outside edge, that would apply the heat directly to the back of the ear, and with the way heat rises, I'm thinking it would radiate out enough to gently warm the parts of the ear that, on me anyway, seem to be the most sensitive to cold: the helix and the scapha, in a way that doesn't require actually covering the ear. It probably isn't going to help much by itself in a blizzard or high winds (although if you have a hat or a hood it would probably work wonders), but if you're stepping out for a smoke break, or hanging out in your favorite bar's beer garden, or simply pumping gas while it's cold out... I think this would be pretty helpful. |

It won't help in Canada. I could see it catching on in certain States, but... have you ever been in minus 40 weather? Hell even in minus 20? |
This idea would not save your ears from being frozen off. |
Granted you'd be able to hear more efficiently while wolves or a grizzly are tearing your guts out for sustenance... but is that really desirable? |
These will not sell in the North. |
Well, down here where we measure things properly there's a whole 32 degrees between freezing and zero, and in THAT range it think it would help a lot, sir. |
Minus 20 Celsius? Perish the thought! Gettin cold just thinking about that... |
We do not have that luxury. |

Someone who'd lived in Russia once told me that -20 was the temperature at which even Real Men pulled down the flaps on their hats. |
-20 is a temperature that'll have a real man thanking his maker he wasn't circumcised. |
