A metadata file could tell the MP3 player, where are beginnings of the chapters and books, as well as other points. This would help to find the place what you were listening to previously.

Metadata could include full text transcription indexed to the timestamp in the audio

Ultimately, does more metadata add to being in the moment with the music. You could have the ultimate omni file of the song with the musical score, creators emotions, place and time of inspiration but does that make, your instantaneous personal experience, the 'music'.

Having to stop the music probably means it wasn't the score for that moment. Find another song.

Well, it makes the likes of concept albums more easily doable, so whereas it may not do what you suggest, having a series of tracks linked together is how we used to listen to music.

       Aren't there already metadata though?

[wjt], I think [Thrust] is referring to audio books.

       I've never metadata I didn't like.

Yes, I listen to audio books... this is not meant for music purposes.
