There would be an automated carwash style tube that runners could go through. (track, marathon, whatever) The first part would be an intense water shower, with powerful jets to get the sweat out of the runner's eyes and to make completely sure the runner is wet. The second part would be 50 meters of extreme cold, enough to drop the runner's body temperature during that time. Optional: A mild salt-water spray to keep the runner cooler later. Also include a toilet, because marathon runners want one, and a table of water or sports drink bottles.

Runners with less-than-optimal physical condition could bypass the tube and accompanying shock, or opt to use the toilet and table but bypass the spray and freeze.

       Cramp, pulled muscles, tweaked tendons. How to avoid? Discuss with examples.

       So you're going to douse the runner with water, then expose him to extreme cold?

       //accompanying shock//

       Um. Yeah.

       Many years ago there was a story in the news about this guy who cut his lawn in 100+ degree heat non stop for 2 hours and then jumped directly into his swimming pool when he was done. The guy had a heart attack and died.
