Manual Car Horn

Pneumatic horn that has to be pumped

Essentially, you have a horn that you can use as much as you want to, but you're going to have to work for it.

Have a crank or pump handle in the dash (like old choke cables or parking brakes) that lets you pump up air into a tank that feeds to an air horn when you press your horn button. After a few seconds of honking, it's out of air and has to be pumped again to "reload".

This might curtail excessive aggressive honking by making it too much of an effort to honk a lot and/or allows the angered driver to let off steam by thrashing the pump handle.

Also, the handle should be poorly made so it will wear out quickly.

The tank allows safe and courteous drivers to always have emergency honking ability at the ready.

Wouldn't it be cool if you could attach a foghorn to your car? Thar she blows!

A bugle that you have to actually blow into.

or a tuba could be interesting for convertibles! Trombones are my favorite, but someone needs to first invent a trombone that can be played in the average car.

Uh, yeah, like I WANT my car to fall apart on purpose. I think its just easier the way it is. Besides, if you want to do a light honk to say hi to your friend, by the time you finish pumping they will probably be gone. (-)

After the tank is depleted, what's the incentive to charge up again for safety's sake?

Weld a gong onto the hood, with the mallet connected by a string to the dash. Imagine a streetcorner jampacked with angry motorists "Gonging" each other-- Ka-Pwang, Ka-Pwang, Ka-Pwang, Ka-Pwang, Ka-Pwang !!!
