It can happen at home: You’ve got one hand on the ladder and the other is holding a paintbrush or you’re holding a beer while mowing the lawn. A neighbor goes by, shouts, “Hi” and waves. Or it can happen at work: You’re walking down the corridor and have just sipped some coffee from the cup you’re holding in one hand, while the other’s balancing a stack of CD’s. A co-worker pops out of a room with a “Good morning”. Did they hear your sudden, mumbled greeting or see you do the chin-up salutation or notice the raised-eyebrow acknowledgment?

Too bad you weren’t wearing your handy Make Waves Cap. On its top is a stiff wire, affixed to the base with a spring. At the top of the wire is attached a life-like foam hand. All you have to do is wag your head for a normal wave, shake it to make a royal wave or nod, producing the village idiot hand flap. If asked how it’s going or how you’re doing, just lean your head forward and shake it, causing the “so-so” signal.

If you want to convey a more expressive response, the foam fingers have wire centers and can be bent to create various hand gestures.

Hmm... hand gestures... bad drivers on freeways... could be useful for making shadow puppets in movie theaters... mwahahaha. Where can I get one?
