Its a 20+-mile long rocket sled built out in the desert. Except it uses maglev for the propulsion and regenerative braking. The car is modeled after the X1. A turntable at both ends allows the riders to exit and board while the car is tuned around.

I'm torn between wanting to go mach one and not wanting to walk 20 miles back to my car. |
With the recent retirement of the Concorde, this would again allow civilians to reach Mach 1. I'm sure there would be a market for it, but I'd hate to see the insurance paperwork that would be necessary. |
[krelnik] no special insurance needed to travel twice as fast on Concorde, so as long as its all tested, I see no particular issue with a Mach1 Theme park ride. |

Sign me up - I wanna go faaaaster! |
The ride should look like an
ordinary car on an ordinary road -
i.e. all the cunning maglev stuff
should be hidden. Oh the joy of
passing a 50mph speed limit sign
at 600mph! |
Maybe you could do it in a tower. It would only need to be 5.5 km (3 miles) high. Ignoring stopping distance. That would be cool. |
Let 'em hit a block of concrete at the end of the ride. That will teach 'em how much it can hurt if you go too fast. |
At the end of the day you can also sell a lot of nice cars, straight from the parking lot. |
