Lucy In The Sky With Carbon

Carbon nanotubes, that is

One of the more futuristic and outlandish applications of carbon nanotubes is in creating cables, strong enough, yet light enough to make a space elevator possible, for instance.

An entirely different application might be the creation of colossal skyways, say for instance, from the top of Everest out for hundreds if not thousands of miles

Everest isn't much taller than the surrounding mountains, all of which sit on an elevated plateau, pretty much in the middle of nowhere useful. But that was a for-instance.

A skyway is a form of suspension bridge. Bridge designers are probably keeping an eye on developments on carbon nanotubes and carbon fiber, already.

It'll all end in tears when a neutrino impacts a C nucleus in a critical C=C bond.

for some strange reason the neutrino comment made me think of the following:

If Hawking radiation really exists, wouldn't the occasional particle wind up outside Shroedinger's box, amd tell us if the cat is alive?

Carbon fiber is often mentioned in the same breath as space elevator. I am not too clear on what these skyways are. What is a carbon fiber skyway?

I'm talking about a ski lift stretching for a thousand miles

Since diamonds are carbon, "Lucy in the sky with carbon nano tubes" would be a more distinct title.
