ravenswood's "Living Carpeting" idea reminded me that when I was in college, I had a dorm room with a student-proof, seemingly water-tight vinyl floor that "had" to be covered with some type of carpeting. Many students used mismatched carpet sample book squares. But the room also had huge windows on
one wall, providing mass quantities of sunlight in the room. So I always wanted to buy a few square feet (there wasn't much floor to cover) of sod and see if we couldn't keep a real grass carpet alive for a semester. My friends, family, and roommates all persuaded me to abandon this idea each semester, but I still think it could have worked.

"Sure, I'll knock back a coupla cold ones with ya...just did the yard. Lemme go finish up the living room, do a little edging in the kitchen and then I'll be right over." |

The visual of some dude driving a John Deer up the front porch and into his living room is priceless.— | iuvare,

A sod-covered living room can be found in Heinlein's _Stranger in a Strange Land_. Sounds nice, except it might be hard to keep vermin-free. |

Luscious sods? HAA-ha-ha-ha!
-I'm an American, but I read all of Terry Pratchett's books
Seriously, though, the image of a tiled path meandering
through the greensward, as it winds past... those crappy
industrial type office desks? Grey formica tops, dun paint
on the tubular metal legs... Tru;y worth seeing, I say let's
do it! |

The bug problem is something that you'll probably have to live with unless you've got a sophisticated system for dealing with insecticides or a cunningly balanced eco-system. Otherwise your carpet will become so contaminated with chemicals it will probably turn into a massive cancer risk. |
