Over 200 million book sales & most people have probably never heard of him, but in these days of a resurgent Maker Culture & DIY repairs, the now late John Haynes, author of the eponymous car repair manuals, must be one of the modern founders of that culture.
Not so much an inventor but more
of a 'don't be afraid to get in there & get your hands dirty' type of character. Top bloke apparently. It's a shame he is no longer with us.

I still have my Haynes Manual for a Mini - I mean a
real Mini from the 1960s, 70s, 80s, and not that
hideous metal boulder that replaced it. |
