Jigsaw Tiles

Because when I get off work at night and close my eyes, all I see is the after image of the straight grout lines I've been looking at all day.

Porcelain, Ceramic or hand made Terra Cotta tiles shaped like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle would make for visually stunning grout lines even without a picture.
For the more adventurous, your entire floor, or maybe a bordered entryway could have your choice of scenes hand painted before the tiles are fired. Just place your order and pray that the guys in shipping aren't having a bad day.

A similar idea, but vertical. http://www.halfbake.../idea/jigsaw_20wall
Can you just picture these two ideas together Po? [2 fries shy of a happy meal, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 05 2004]

The tiles could arrive in sections, with a mesh backing that holds them together. You sure don't ever want to break or lose one! Picture tile sets exist, though I haven't seen them as jigsaw pieces.

There was once a way to make Lego mosaics online from your own photos, and order a kit of a half-dozen shades of Legos to assemble.

I was trying hard, not to see the similarities. well done 2 fries. :)

"Well, I got all of the edge pieces and most of the sky but I can't find the other half to this god damn tree."

Dislike all the right angels and contious straight lines? use hexagonal tiles!
my-nep, Oct 19 2003

       Superb, 2 fries.
lostdog, May 14 2004

       I second that.
FarmerJohn, Dec 18 2004

       I second those two links.

oh, ok Amos has forgotten to add an URL.
po, Dec 18 2004

Oops I did a bad thing.
After the crash several of the annos I've made to my own ideas have come back doubled but with the contributor of a previous link's moniker in place of my own. Such was the case with the links above. There was a link from [Amos kito] first, then my link to [po]'s idea with his name and then the same link again with my name.
Because the delete link function was active on the second link, I thought that only the glitch would be removed but Amos' link went with it.

       Sorry man.

       charming idea (+).

right angels? are there left angels too? Are they left and right handed? do they sit on the right and left sides of a cloud in heaven? why right angels?

       or maybe they're wrong?
DesertFox, Dec 19 2004

Great idea, 2fries, especially if you have the pieces make up a picture. See link for some people who already do something similar - their product would combine well with your idea.
spacemoggy, Dec 19 2004

Not just jigsaw pieces - any tessellating shapes. God I hate tiling.
wagster, Dec 19 2004

       Do jigsaw pieces necessarily tessellate?
daseva, Jul 20 2005

No left [angel]s, though quite likely a wrong one now and then.
angel, Feb 08 2007

Very cool. Better make sure you have good coverage on the back so they don't crack. ++

       God I hate tiling too.

Not sure how I missed it until now but that link is awesome jutta.
I tell you, if I ever get to design and build my dream house she's gonna be funky.
