Ah, yes. Let us rejoice for it is The International Day of Ellipsis-es. We may celebrate for... you know... whatever.
Spend your day leaving people in suspense whilst in mid-thought...
Or just randomly trail off into silence...
Or by leaving out important details....
May everyone's activities
be undetermined and abbreviated with no definite end in sight. May the question of uncertainty rule the day and that all thoughts be seemingly irrelevant. Just leave everything up in the air....
I don't really know what it is other than it is...
THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ELLIPSIS-ES...
...or is it?
(Note: In keeping with my "pedant" reputation [thanks DF], I know the plural of ellipsis is actually ellipses but it does not look nor sound as funny that way. Also, there are no four dot ellipses but an ellipsis may be followed by a period, thus giving it that appearance).
have it here
That_27s_20A_20Real_20Grey_20Area or have it somewhere that's not here [xenzag, Jul 22 2006]

So, this one is for me. [+] I think I can use as many *dots* as I want.....they are a decoration...a space maker...I don't always speak in full sentences...so... |

Welcome to my grey area, or not as the
case may be or could it be otherwise? Who
knows or what's this when it's over there
somewhere? Have a + or - or delete as
appropriate or leave whenever...... |
Closest thing that I can think of, anyway. |
... Ellipsis or "erm"
.... Ellipsis followed by full stop: "erm" but decides has no more to say
..... Ellipsis preceded and followed by full stop: finished speaking, "Oh, actually, erm, well maybe not"
...... Two ellipses, "errrrrrrrrrm"
....... Decimal ellipsis or 1.1erm |

Had a recent client...
egregious use of elipses...
in thier marketing copy...
...it annoyed. |
Does this mean they can *only* use on International Day of Ellipsis-es? If so...bun. |
I thought this was going to be an idea about making ellipses elliptical, similar to the i-dot circles beloved by teenage girls... |
A staggering 98% of ellipses are misused... |

And now selling: the official International Day of Elipses t-shirt - polka-dot, of course... |

Antici...pation!
Anno...tation! |
... now ... let's have a think here ... I'm not
sure that dot-dot-dot-dot is ever
acceptable as surely the last dot in the
ellipsis represents the end of the
sentence? |
... after all ... one doesn't end a sentence
like this !. |

We have road signs that have a solitary exclamation mark on them, simply meaning 'hazard'. What about an ellipsis on a road sign meaning 'you'll find out soon enough'. |
Essentially the two are interchangeable. |

All this reminds me of hollajam, Queen of the Ellipsis, and her many sisters. Oh, how I miss them... |
it .... if you magnify the last dot you will
see that it is in fact a microdot image of
the moon, complete with labelled craters.
I've found a way of doing this. |

Nowhere else have I seen such a large group of people have such... fun with the rules of grammer. + to you and all those that... enjoy those... things. |
// grammer // ... and the rules of spelling |

<with a sheepish grin> Yeah, that too. <wasg> |
