If we have skyways in the Colonies, we call them something else. But the one-two references to Inspector Gadget and Buckminster Fuller sealed the deal! |

You might be interested to know (perhaps) that when you press the button on a pedestrian crossing, the lights only change when it causes least disruption to the passing traffic. Check out how many times it's only the last car in the traffic queue that has to stop, and how much quicker the lights change when your trying to cross the 'leaving town' lane than the 'going into town' lane. |

PeterSealy, again you enlighten. Those constructs
are a rarity here. Our "flyways" (freeway overpasses) are quite nice, though. Great concrete ribbons latticed and tiered to the heavens speak volumes about us culturally, don't you think? |

Sad but true. Especially so considering nearly 80% of the state is wetlands. But please know...I did not act alone. |

I've heard them called "skybridges" here. But why are they considered ugly? Surely they're no more ugly than the road they cross... and the ones between buildings are often quite interesting. |

Yes! The beauty here being the solution is both practical *and* miraculous. |

They're skyways in Minneapolis, a network of walkways between buildings that let you walk from one end of downtown to the other without waiting for a light to change. You could sink a toroidal frame half in the ground with counterweighted steps that always face up, turn it slowly and it conveys you in a big arc over the top. Kinda heavy industry next to your silver rainbows, though. |

The solution is obvius... put little cannons at intervals along roads and people can launch themselves across... |

You have moved into a room that is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue... |
