This is a bench that quickly bolts onto a standard guard rail to create a point of interest without all the burdensome, yet desirable, required legal features of certified public places, like bathrooms, parking, signage, warnings, etc. Also great for rivers, wetlands, or prairies, wherever a guard rail is going unused and ignored.

Just find a great spot, show up in the middle of the night, and bolt on a comfy, eco-friendly Instant Overlook.

Probably bigger that what you envisioned but it's the basic idea yea? https://www.dropbox...vs&st=mhuipbgv&dl=0

A great design would have adaptors so cyclists could take a break ... Bicycle_20Seat_20Shorts

AI art illustration please. Bun pending.

Given that guard-rails are pretty standard in shape, you wouldn't even need to bolt it. A self-supporting cantilever design that hooks on to the rail (& maybe a post too) would be easy to make.

[neutrinos] Faster! Good mod! Also, I’d add an easel feature so instant landscape artists can enjoy the overlook.

How far over? Cantilevered off the cliff's edge I presume?

In the spirit of this idea...

Years ago on the Gulf Islands, enterprising car-less Island-dwellers installed signs saying “Car stop. You accept a ride at your own risk. But the ride is free so consider it a gift.” It caught on, and is now a major way to travel around the little islands in the strait between mainland BC and Vancouver Island. I may or may not be old enough to have been closely related to, or possibly be, someone who started this.

I currently have an unoffical official Sunset Viewing Outlook installed on the TransCanada Trail which bisects my property overlooking Georgian Bay. The couch (possibly pre-owned by Dirk Gently) backs onto my LookOnly™ Pollinator Garden where 'the flowers are for the Birds and Bees', not greedy, selfish tourourists.

For the limited safety it would provide, the bench and easel is cantilevered on the outside of the guard rail. I don’t know how much safer it would be if a semi lost its shit, but it’s something. Might not be a cliff; could be a grassy knoll.

As a commercial product, it could fold up flat like those sling chairs that have the drink holders in the arms. Store it flat in the trunk next to your watercolors and Robert’s your mother’s brother.

My only question is one of safety. Would use by, say, "motorists of size" structurally weaken the guardrail such that it may fail to act as a guardrail when a car hits it later?

       Cool story [Sgt Teacup].

[21] You have a point. A 2700-pound watercolorist, leaning way out to retrieve his dropped filbert, may stress the guard rail. But if it was meant to catch a car, probably no harm, no foul, no damage.

+ wonderful idea. I would like an attached foot massager , also.

[doc] Hey! I know that guy!

That would be the heavy-duty, official government version, minus the harnesses, safety rails in the middle of the view, the nearby porta-potty, large signage with risk details, contractor name and contact info, and the fucking waiting line, all per NPS regs. Oh, yes the concession stand and the flat-hat docent.

Do one that folds up into your trunk, with an easel. What do you use to do this?

That was ChatGPT, I pay the extra for more features. It's actually kind of fun to work with specifically because it sometimes gets it so wrong.

Let me try a version with appropriate government regulation. Stand by...

Okay, I'm just going to tell it to draw the following and I'll put up whatever it does. This should be interesting.

"Can you draw that clamp on bench that attaches to a guide rail on a road overlooking a river but add the following safety features: 1- Warning sign to use at your own risk. 2- Safety harnesses. 3- List of regulations: helmets must be worn. Do not use while drunk etc. 4- Cables to attach to safety harnesses etc. 5- Automatic toll booth. 6- Warning lights saying "occupied"

Okay, as you can see it does its own interesting interpretations like mispelling almost everything and in example #3 showing a break dancing ghost to indicate what an "ITARKICED" user might look like.

That being said, I've hired several graphic artists for various projects throughout my life and gotten pretty much the same thing, as in: "Umm, I wanted bird carrying a flower, this appears to be a skull shooting watermelons." "Yea, I'm an artist, I do my own interpretations of stuff because I'm basically nuts."

By the way, if I hired an artist to write "DON'T USE WHILE INTOXICATED" and they wrote "DOOT USE WHILE BE INTUXICCED" like ChatGPT did here, I'd say "The don't use while intoxicated rule should apply to your painting tools as well."
