Smallish single-eye piece (or Boba Fett-like armature) that tells you at a glance hot much infrared radiation a surface is emitting.

Useful in the kitchen or on bounty hunts.

Probably not quite as small as you'd like, but pretty close... [egnor, Jul 19 2000, last modified Oct 21 2004]

the IR used in night vision goggles and heat IR are slightly different frequencies. what you are looking for is a pyroelectric sensor that can be sonar(or otherwise) tuned for distance to the object being viewed. these exist(industrial and medical apps) but i'm not sure about in monacle form.

You could incorporate on into a set of reading gasses to tell if your tea is cool enough to drink! Nice work but its not that entire original. Keep on the thinking cap and watch as your ideas become original masterpieces to the mind then click submit and I'll Give you a bun for originality but for now :-( A fish and a note to keep on trying!

If you look at [centauri]'s profile page you'll find he's already got 6 two-and-a-half bunner ideas under his belt already.
