High Speed Pool

Fast flowing water flow you swim with, not against.

There are "swim in place" pools that feature fast flowing water that create what is essentially an aquatic treadmill. This takes that concept and flips it around.

The pool is suitably stretched out into an oval course like a race track and rather than swimming against the flow and staying in one place, you swim with the flow and go very fast.

If you've ever swam downstream in a fast flowing river you'll know that it's pretty exhilarating.

Trapped against the intake side of the pump, the doctor designs a slightly less exhilarating pool.

( Amazing what you can design these days with underwater paper and waterproof inks. )

I've done that at the top of one of those waterfalls in Yosemite that has signs saying "If you go over the falls you will die". You're right, it's pretty exhilarating.

Instead of having one big intake and one big output for the water stream you could have hundreds of smaller ones all along the path. This would minimize any unwanted grinding up of the swimmers.
