It might be better to just get another gerbil.

A set of railings within a popular tourist area, remove two of the bars and replace them with two rubber bars. Stick your head through the bars giving the impression of being stuck.

Tourist takes photo and drops spare change into bucket.

Annotation:

You might have to mark the rubber railings in some way to stop tourists sticking their heads between the wrong railings and getting really stuck.

That would spoil all the fun for the non-tourists.
Detly, Jan 23 2004

I like this, but it would have to be in an area that wouldn't allow a little tyke to slide through by accident.

I'm of the Darwin school of life [kropotkin]. If tourists are stupid enough to put their heads through the wrong bars, then they deserve all they get and should be made to stay there, unable to pass on their genes.

Plus for the idea, though as [2 fries] says, you'd need to find a way to discourage small children from doing this, since they're probably not old enough to have to suffer for their stupidity.

Around here, it would probably tick off the Fire Department (which is usually responsible for freeing heads from railings) unless you made it really clear you weren't stuck. But I think you could make some money charging said tourists to have their photographs taken with their heads "stuck" in the railings.

Exactly [Dr], you get a rest whilst they have a go.

I don't understand. Is there also a small hole in the ground where you can pretend to get your foot stuck? Or a tree with a knotted hole where you can pretend to get your hand caught?
k_sra, Jan 23 2004

How about a ground-level fake balcony and railing to dangle your small children over ...
Letsbuildafort, Jan 23 2004

k_sra: never seen those old village stocks or jails that people get their photos in? Tourists need photo opportunities, and any slight pretext will do.
DrCurry, Jan 23 2004

Well, how about a section of railroad that women can have themselves roped to with oncoming train? I like [Lbaf]'s suggestion. That would be a real Thriller. I would feel so deliciously Bad. You Know It.

Anything involving a head wrapped around rubber must be fun! +

but it's actually rubber wrapped around a head! i'll let your imagination do what it will with that...

Don't forget the scarf to cover the kid's face [LBAF]!

//stay there, unable to pass on their genes//

Well, in theory, they could still pass on genes, but why you would want to combine your genes with tourists who get their heads stuck in fake railings is beyond me. (What should be done is put up a sign over metal bars saying that the bars are rubber and you can put your head through them. Set up hidden camera. Wait.)

I was almost sure this would be one of Ben's. It's downright benfrostian.
RayfordSteele, Jan 26 2004

(RayfordSteele was almost sure this was going to be one of [benfrost]'s ideas, because the idea seems to have sprung as if from the very mind of [benfrost] himself.)
k_sra, Jan 27 2004

       Well,.[K_sra]...er.. it didn't.

       How repeatedly repetitious of me. {fixed}
RayfordSteele, Jan 27 2004

Easier to have all of the supports be flexible rubber, save the ones at the end and one at the middle.

Then you can't possibly get stuck no matter how dumb or young you are.
