Too many Christmas presents are 'stocking fillers' or token gifts for those you don't know very well or don't like (!).
These gifts are worthless, but use up resources and money. Worse, the recipient feels guilty about throwing them away and they take up valuable storage space.
Let's start
the tradition of making such gifts out of ice. Adults would receive ice socks, ice handkerchiefs and ice gloves (these would all have to be regarded as sculptures, of course); children would get ice scooters, roller skates and so on. The kids will use them enthusiastically over the holidays, but after the novelty has worn off, they won't clog up the garage for years - they'll just melt.
This is not such a good idea if you live in the sourthern hemisphere, of course.
Christmas cards should also be made of ice, and displayed outside. I'm not sure what the Post Office would make of this though...
But it's only July...

I don't think the quality of this idea has anything to do with whichever hemisphere you're in. I'm in the Northern one as it happens, and this would just make my Christmas dinner table messy... |

And anyway, I like getting silly socks. |

//...roller skates...// That would be ice skates. |

<ancient joke> But what if you live in Chile ? </ancient joke> |

I've never seen the snow! :( |

//I don't think the quality of this idea has anything to do with whichever hemisphere you're in.// Agree with[saker] - the Sahara desert is in the Northern hemisphere, but I guess guys floating around on camels around there don't get up to Christmas celebrations much. |

[Pericles] - I've attached some here for you:

After last winter, I never want to see it again. |

Then you picked the perfect 6 months to live on Cape Cod as so not to... |

[neilp] Nice, thanks. Still i don't think that'll do. |

[waugs] It's all in the eye of the beholder. |

[Shz] I actually lived in the Cape (every summer for 3 years in a row) and I always wished I had been there during the winter! |

Usually it's just in the eyes. And the hair, and the face, and the gloves, and the socks... |
|

Spoken like a true Michiganderian. I do miss it... |
