Maybe we should get the stuff together for a party. I'll bring the ...(see link) |
Shouldn't that be the 4th halfbirthday? |
Half my bread is missing, so let them eat cake. |
"Half a birthday to you,
Half a birthday to you!
Half a birthday, dear Halfbakery,
Half a birthday to you!" |
Strange but true, it's also my farm's jockey's birthday...so as I read this, having just logged on today, I am eating cake with frosting and a horse on it. |
Fortunately, the cake is not halfbaked so it it not half-bad although the frosting could do with half the sugar...... |
Croissant for the b-day of the 1/2 B, a big "thank you" to Jutta for giving us this slice of life, and a piece of cake to [hippo] for noticing and bringing this to our attention. |
Happy birthday halfbakery and congratulations jutta on a job more than half done. Although its actually now the 11th (hey! it was a choice between logging on or drinking more beer. Some of us have a sense of priorities you know.) |

Halfy Birthday To you
Halfy Birthday To You
Halfy Birthday Dear .5Bakery...
Halfy Birthday to yoooooou...
Susen, shouldn't that be 'whicker'? |
or (s)nicker..... I think horses whinney, neigh, and nicker.....as well as snort, trumpet, and blow..... |
UB....really small horse...actually made out of plastic....about 1 hand high. |
(Funny, when I told the lady at the Dairy Queen that I wanted an ice cream cake with a horse on it, she didn't give me all this trouble! At least El Pedanto isn't teasing me!) |
(Belated) happy 1/2 Bday to bakery and bakeperson alike. |
Outstanding job, [jutta]. |
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oops - I was sunning myself by a pool in Italy this year
on 10th August, and failed to mark the
occasion. Belated birthday cheer to the Halfbakery! |
What Dog Ed said (last time round) - cheers dear Bakesperson. |
So the birth of HB has been revealed to us newbies: 8/10/99. Thanks, all (tear) for making it all possible, especially, our dear queen, [jutta]. |
...any stale cake left for me? |
Happy 17 day late Halfbakery 3rd birthday! |
Happy third birthday Halfbakery. Thanks jutta for making
it happen (and sticking with it for three years). |
Thoroughly Babelfished Happy birthday song: |

We should be able to vote each year on this one. |
Belated happy birthday wishes to the halfbakery (dear god I'm insane I'm, wishing well to a website), and congratulations [jutta] for managing to stave off madness all these years. |
The HB has the same birthday as my mother. This is great - if I'm still wasting, sorry, *spending* time here in a year at least I won't forget her birthday. Or at least I'll find out I've forgotten it on the day. Actually, I only noticed this thread 17 days after it was posted... |
Oh well, it would be an improvement anyway. |
Congrats [jutta] - your baby is now entering its third year. There's something beautifully circular in the way that the HB is the best idea of all time. |
Hurray! Tomorrow marks my half-birthday on the halfbakery - 6 months already! |
15th? same as no 1 son. happy birthday Rods |
I've yet to see Mr Branagh come up with the kind of amazing stuff that you have, [Rods] - maybe he's a late developer. |
---------------------------------------------------------
Posting this slightly early (not that early though if you live in NZ) as I'll forget otherwise:
Happy 5th Birthday! |
Hip, Hippo, Hooray! (or "Hurrah!", depending upon your age, sex, land of origin, and literary predilection) |
Now the 10th, at least here. Happy birthday bakery! |
(Well remembered hippo. Do you have this marked on a calendar or something?) |
Excellent Half-Birthday Cake graphic. |
Happy birthday HB! Thankyou Jutta! Having only found you a few short months ago and still being unable to keep up with the influx of new ideas, I am aghast at having to recap five years of input. |
Ahh..lets see who can blow out the virtual candles!"Oh and thanks Jutta" |
Nice cake. Don't know who ate half of it though <looks at ceiling and whistles> Well done Jutta. |
Happy anniversary hb. Thanks & congratulations to jutta. |
Happy 5th birthday! Top piece of cake for top, top corner of the Interweb. |
(Does the 'bakery go to elementary/primary school this year?) |
HB HB Many thanks to the bakesperson and all the moderators. |
Mmmmm! Cake!
Many thanks for all your efforts jutta. Put your feet up and have a nice cup of tea as a reward. |
Five years without a price bump or cost of living adjustment to the prix fixe menu. This must be the best bargain on the internet! For all you have created and so selflessly continue to give, thank you, Jutta. |
Happy Birthday HB, and a big slice of cake for the Bakesperson and moderators. |
<wonders what jutta's birthday wish would be>
Thank you, jutta and the moderators. |
Thank you very much to Jutta and all her helpers. I've only arrived recently, but now find it hard to imagine life without the halfbakery. I love this place. Thanks again. Many happy returns. |
Thanks for the cake, Jutta. Who sucked the middle out of my piece? |
Cupcake! Yummy-cute!
Happy boithday! ;) |
is it me or that everytime I look at that cake another bitesize piece has gone? |
It's you, po - it's always you. |
I thought the two-and-a-half candles was a nice Halfbaked touch. |
[lostdog] Nice. Actually I still can't work out whether it's a cleverly photoshopped photo or a drawing. |
HBday, and thank you, Jutta, for a great deal of fun. |
Huzzah!
Huzzah!
Huzzah!
Three cheers for the Halfbakery, and to Jutta, its most obedient slave and master. |
... An oasis of intense frivolity, dedicated to imagining the almost-possible! |
It's quite a few days for me... 8th Aug: my halfbirthday, 9th Aug: my birthday, 10th Aug: The Bakery's birthday. I'm all partied out. |
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++ |
It's that time again - Happy birthday everyone! |
Happy birthday by the way! |
Yaay! Made it on time this year. Happy Birthday 'bakery! |
oh, look! here we are again. i just made it back in time. <throws {biodegradeable} confetti> |
[Blows noisemaker] *toot* Wow, eight years. Thanks for sticking it out this long! |
Coincidentally, I joined the 'bakery three years ago today. That means that in two years I will have been a member for half of it's existence. Keep on baking everyone! |
Eight years! That is what, a century in internet time? |
//Thanks for sticking it out this long!//
No, thank *you*! |
oh, there you are, [hidden_truths]. i didn't see you standing back there... |
Thank you all, my extended half family. |
What [normzone] just said. Happy Birthday HB, and cheers, half-bakers, for all the doses of illumination, inspiration and insanity you've provided over the past year! |
isn't [imaginality] and all our new friends just gorgeous |
HB to the HB. Many half-y returns to Jutta, and to all the rest of you who make this place what it is! |
Happy b-day 'Bakery. I wonder why noone has posted a happy half-birthday idea on February 10th... Hmm... |
// I wonder why noone // There's a kind of hush... |
I won't have access to the internet on Monday so I thought that I'd get in first with a special 10th Anniversary, great big hug for jutta and the halfbakery! SURPRISE! (sp: corrected) |
(sp. "SURPRISE")
Wow - 10 years. |
10 years! happy birthday hb. |
Happy 10th Birthday & thanks for being the
Halfbakery! |
Wow - so Jutta's only ten now! |
Apparently, the HB and I share a birthday. |
Here I was thinking this was meant for me. :) |
//I won't have access to the internet on Monday // You *will* survive - just be strong. |
Will there be hats and jelly? |
ah yes, here we are: tinfoil birthday hat, inflatable walrus, blow-dart kazoo... |
a mime has been stuffed and mounted just for you. |
10 years! Thank you, jutta. |
Half a score years ago our bakesperson brought forth on this interweb a new community, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all half-baked ideas are created equal. |
We are simply not worthy. |
Happy 10th Birthday Halfbakery - what an achievement! |
yay! big 10 Happy birthday H'b'y |
"'Space Command to Zoom, all systems are go for your message to the Halfbakery...' |
'Hey Bakery, it's your birthday, I'm in charge of the stars and I'm hear to say Hey Bakery, you're the big star today! My name is Zoom and I live on the moon, and I came down to earth just to sing you this tune...'" |
!Happy Birthday! Keep up the good work everyone and Thanks once again, Jutta! |
We need ten candles alit, atop the croissant.
Wow, 10 years of fun, education, distraction, romance, sadness, bewilderment,
befuddlement, bemusment, loss, and all around love... |
Thank you jutta, thank you so much. |
(sniff) 10 years old already...
They grow up so fast, the little ones... |
Amazing! I sometimes wonder if the HB will be around in a century's time, or what could bring it to an end, and whether some day when we're all dead and gone, our ideas and annos will stay here as a monument to us all. That's already happened to some of us, of course. |
Thanks yet again, [jutta], for all the fun. |
Ha! I'd completely forgotten about this one. Thanks all for the virtual cake (oooh, I'm virtually full!) and the wishes. I hope some of your ideas get built, or at least fail in memorable ways. |
//or at least fail in memorable ways.// Exactly the
encouraging words my dear old ma used to say... |
It's my half-birthday today! 3 half-years old! Hooray! |
But you look so young...(Happy half day, halfbaker.) |
------------------------------
Is everyone baking cakes to celebrate the Halfbakery's 15th birthday, which is in less than a week? |
Happy halfbirthday bakery. |
It's the 10th somewhere, so Happy Birthday
halfbakery. May you shine for many years to come.
And thank you jutta, for keeping the bakery going
after all these years. |
Here's to halfbakers left behind. Happy birthday. |
A very happy halfcakery to everyone, especially [jutta] |
Happybake birth halfyday!
Halfbirthery bakeyday hap!
Bakebirthhalf happyday!
Happy birthday halfbakery! Finally got it right!
Thankyou to [jutta] and all the others who make this mad place, our
place. |
//Here's to halfbakers left behind.// What's wrong
with their right behinds? Are you saying they're all
half-arsed? |
But I digress. Many happy returns to the Halfbakery. |
have a great baking day... |
Somebody really dropped the ball on that one, Ian. Goofball. |
Hey for real, happy birthday bakers, here, there and
everywhere. Love you all. |
16? Does this mean the 'bakery gets a vote? Can drive a car? (Watch out Google!) Get married? Take illegal drugs? Woo hoo! |
Damn, these seem to sneak up on us quicker every year... |
Happy Halfbakey day to all halfbakers! |
Happy Birthday to all my old friends in the asylum. It's been
real. Happy Birthday, jutta. And thank you for your patience
all these years. |
Well done, and many happy returns of the bun. |
18 - the Halfbakery can now vote and buy drinks in pubs (in
the UK) |
*strawpedos eleventh bottle of blue WKD, spews on
freshbought
snaffle-bit loafers, cries* |
Just like every other evening then [cal] ... ? |
// the Halfbakery can now vote // |
Is that a good thing or a bad thing ? |
What would the HB want to vote FOR ? Virtually every shade of opinion from neo-Maoist tree-hugging anti-globalization vegans to Camo-wearing gun-toting cat-strangling Nazi survivalists seems to be represented here ... what would the consensus, if such a thing were possible, be ? |
The only thing we can envisage is an HB candidate standing on a pro-Oxygen ticket ... pretty much everyone agrees that oxygen is a Good Thing ... |
Net neutrality. Or maybe net reverse. 2nd gear seems
jammed. |
// Just like every other evening then// Don't be
ridiculous, I can't afford to buy a new pair of loafers every
day - my name's no Carnegie! |
HB hb...so I'm a bit late. belated HB |
That is an excellent idea |
// 2nd gear seems jammed // |
Try double-declutching, the synchromesh cones are pretty well worn on 2nd ... |
Happy birthday! - slightly late this year because of
the Great Outage Of 2018 |
And quite the outage it was. Thought we were goners for
sure. |
Speaking of birthdays and the outage, I had been hoping
the site would be
back up in time for what I thought would be its 20th
birthday, and when I
saw today* that it was back up, I was glad that it was.
You see, I had
somehow never seen this Happy Birthday post (even
though it must have
come up in "recent" last year), and I misremembered the
date on the oldest
idea I've seen [link] as being in December 1998. Because
that was posted by
Jutta, and it seemed to be the oldest, I thought it was on
the same day the
site went live. However, the actual date of that idea is
even earlier: March
7, 1997! There are a few others from 1997 too. But this
post suggests the site went live on August 10, 1999. Can
somebody deconfuse me? |
*I checked pretty often through July, slowed down in
August, and had
stopped entirely by September. Today (Halloween!) I
relaunched my
browser on a computer that I don't use as often, and one
of the tabs it
session-restored was here (which I'd left open in hope of
the site coming
back up), and I noticed that there was no corresponding
"Problem loading
page" entry in the window menu. |
Anyway, I'm really glad the Halfbakery is running again!
While it was down, I
thought of hardly any ideas to add to my "things to
halfbake" list. It seems
that exposure to everyone else's ideas on here plays an
important role in
how I come up with ideas. |
I don't remember exactly, but one possibility is that I had a
few separate ideas in text files, and used the create- or
last-modified-date on those files as the idea creation time
while initially populating the site. Partially because it made
sense at the time, partially because it helped me to test the
view rendering code -- there's some logic in there to spread
things out across different time granularities, and you can't
really test the handling of months and years if everything's
from the same ten minute interval of loading data into an
empty site. |
// exposure to everyone else's ideas on here plays an important role in how I come up with ideas. // |
The word you're looking for is "plagiarism", but don't let it bother you. |
[notexactly] It's explained in [jutta]'s 3rd October 2000 annotation to the "Chez Monitor" idea (see link) |
I'm confused. Is "deconfuse" an actual word? If so I've been
missing out on a really good thing for a whole lotta decades. |
Aha! Thanks both. I should have looked through the links
here first. |
And Chrome put a red underline under that word when I
typed it in, but I'm not letting that stop me. I think it's a
perfectly sensical word. |
Happy (slightly belated) Halfbirthtery! |
Happy Birthday (tomorrow)!
No longer a teenager! |
Happy 20th, Halfbakery! Many thanks to [jutta] and all
the others that let us nutters have this corner of the
internet to ourselves. |
Happy birthday, Halfbakery. |
I cannot imagine a world where the Halfbakery does not exist. |
Happy 20th halfbakirthery, to this beautiful collection of
weirdos and to jutta. May the next 20 find us in more
peaceful and saner times, each and every one of us.
Namaste. |
// I cannot imagine a world where the Halfbakery does not exist.// |
Can you magine the Halfbakery where the world does not exist, tho ? |
Next year the HB will be 21 and legally allowed to do all sorts of things. A half-baked cake would seem appropriate ... |
oops - missed the Halfbakery's 21st birthday! It's
now old enough to drink alcohol in the USA |
It's now old enough to *legally* drink alcohol in the USA. Not the same thing at all ... |
It could use a shot of tequila, and so could I. (just
watched a little news, that'll send ya running to the
liquor cab at 8 am.) |
Happy Birthday, you big old group hug you. |
// cannot imagine a world where the Halfbakery
does not exist. MaxwellBuchanan, Aug 09 2019//
I cannot imagine the Halfbakery where
MaxwellBuchanan doesn't exist, yet here we are. I
still feel like a newbie, even with 1394 ideas here.
How did that happen? Happy Birthday indeed. |
That must be nearly as old as you now [hippo] |
Bravo to the Soup Dragon! Thick Lincoln Pea is this year's flavour. |
Came here to say what [xen] said in 2020. |
We missed a few since then; where are we?! We seem to have awoken in someone else's odd and disorienting dream. |
Anyway, Hoppy Biffday BathHackery! So glad you're in the world! The world needs more haitch-bee! |
Happy something or other! And thank you Jutta. This is a really old site as websites go. Venerable even. |
I misread that as a really odd site |
belated birthday greetings xx |

pertinax, not once, not even by accident, have I been able to wrap a present really well. They all come out the same.
Misshaped, pointy paper corners, with a bow that falls off if someone sneezes.
That's all I got. See ya next year, hahahaha |
