If theres one thing that mark's out Halfbakers' from the
common heard, its there pernickitiness as regards grammar,
spelling, and punctuation
Would it not, there fore, behove our esteemed halfbakestress
to implement a system whereby Halfbakers' can add standard
proof correction marks to ideas
and to annotations?

What if they're corections arent acurate? |
17: apparently "behove" is UK ... hmm nope, 18 again. |
As the idea is posed in the form of a question, I will answer it. No, it would not. |
Starters, we would never agree on a standard. |
Second, the participants could not be trusted to wield the marks correctly with which to begin. If they could, then the marks would be unnecessary. |
Max, I nearly stroked out reading this post. |
I believe it to be 11 as well. |
I like the idea. Perhaps small superscript numbers could be employed so that an excessive amount of space would not be taken up, while permitting easy referencing in annotations to the offending part of the original text. |
Would failure to use the subjunctive when
appropriate count against bakers? |
It probably wouldn't have, but now it will. Heisenberg, you
see. |
// Would failure to use the subjunctive when
appropriate count against bakers? // |
Only if, when baking, the use of the gerund is
eschewed. |
Would that you had thought that through.
Halfbaking wouldn't be the same without the
gerund. |
//Halfbaking wouldn't be the same without the gerund.// What do neutered gerbils have to do with this idea? |
(Edit: And my count is 15, minimally, and I would still prefer to replace the phrase "that marks out" with "which distinguishes". Additionally, while it could be successfully argued that the idea will do little to "behoove our esteemed halfbakestress", it might nonetheless be posited that the halfbakery itself might positively benefit therefrom.) |
Gerbils are like puns on the bakery. Give'em the slightest opportunity and they'll replicate themselves all over the page. |
[FlyingToaster], are you counting [Max]'s use of the
Oxford comma? As that is thoroughly un-UKish. |
ah, good point: 17. I'm not a big fan of the Oxford comma for simple list elements. |
(I don't see how Max gets 11 though: I count 12 straightforward spelling/grammar errors; the other 5 are, arguably, style and haste.) |
//Halfbaking wouldn't be the same without the
gerund.// |
How about a compromise: We will cease use of the
gerund, although we may end up misusing the present
participle from time to time. |

Are you MAD ? This is the HalfBakery

Nil desperandum, [FT]. Maybe Santa Claus will
bring you a grammar book. Of course, if he
can't bring it in person, he might have to send
a subordinate
Claus

No you didn't. As a matter of fact, you raised it. |
That was before. It got heavy. |
Do you have one of those folding case-rest things then, like they
have in hotels ? |
I just put it on the floor for now. |
Are split infinitives still infinite? I'd like to boldly know. |
Hopefully, pedants like I around the world are patience enough this to deal with. Its like so easy to like become like rageful when you like read people which write like they speech. So my answer is an absolutely *NO*, so long as thats OK with you. |
I believe the current idiom is "Meh". |
I think that ideas covered in proofreading marks would make the site looked more halfbaked, like a rough copy version, but having some errors is halfbaked itself. |
