This would work fine, except in terms of success.

The devices are already listening. Use triangulation from home devices and phones to locate gunshot locations without installing specialized equipment

It's still July - does that tech discriminate between fireworks and firearms yet?

Whole Home Defense Deployment system?!--finally, a reason to allow Alexa a place at the rustic harvest table in the camp War Room (previously known at the dining hall).

Add Camp Teacup to the shipping list, [8th].

Having had a business in East Menlo Park, right next door to East Palo Alto (murder capital of the world) in the early 90s, I can tell you there's a very distinct difference between the "pop pop pop!" sound of gunfire and random "BANG!" sound of fireworks. Fireworks sound much more intimidating and scary. Gunfire is more of a sharp, staccato "CRACK!" than a bang. At least the 9mms that were popular with the kids back then.

You'd hear gunfire on a regular basis during crack wars of the early 90s. I basically had a business on the border of a war zone. Told you all about the time I followed some car thieves into a dead end ally only to be surrounded by gang members who were waiting for their buddies. I smiled at my would be assailants, put my car into "multi ton killing machine if you try to stop me mode" (reverse) and high tailed it out of there.

At one point discussed and established "defensive firing positions" should there be an armed incursion into the business. Good times.

       Indeed.

C-130 Loadmaster: "Hey, are you carrying any weapons or ammunition ? "

Prospective passenger :"Errr, no ? "

Loadmaster: "Well get some from that stack over there and put them on board, you lazy bastard".

//Good times.// Ah, America. The West's answer to Somalia.
MaxwellBuchanan, Jul 20 2019

May we enquire as to the question to which "Somalia" is the answer ?

Is it a Trivial Pursuit geography card ?

By the way, [doc], you would have felt right at home in Belfast a few decades ago ...

//the question to which "Somalia" is the answer// Certainly. It's "Which country starts with S, ends with omalia, and has a homicide rate 20% lower than the USA?"
MaxwellBuchanan, Jul 20 2019

It's been a few months since we've had a good 'Murica / gun slugfest around here. Shall we save time and just link to the last one?
