Banks could offer "rewards" at their ATMs.
After using an ATM, the machine gives you a coffee or pop. It's basically just combining the ATM with a standard vending machine.
Banks will build customer loyalty and consumers get a "free" gift.
Other giveaways could be chocolate bars, magazines,
coupons to local establishments. Consumers could pick their gift.

How about free money from the ATM? I could go for that! |
Good idea! 1 in 20 people get cash back...like a slot machine. |
Similar to the Gambling ATM idea already posted but perhaps this would be more practical. |

There was a bank in Kansas or somewhere that was purposly slipping $50s in with the $20s in their ATMs at random ... ATM usage increased tenfold in that area ... but it was an holiday promotion ... |

There was a vending machine at a previous job of mine, that would randomly flash "You win!" after you had made your purchase. You'd get all your money back, plus the item you selected. |

It could draw an amusing doodle on a reserved space on your ATM card using ink which would fade quickly enough to allow a new drawing to appear next time you use it. |
Along the lines of [dotabulous]'s idea ... how about having the ATM print your fortune on a reserved space on your ATM card with some thermo-sensitive ink (like G.I. Joe technology) that when heated it disappears, and each time you use the ATM, it heats the section, clears your fortune and gives you a new one ... and if you use your panic PIN, then it imprints the date and time of the PIN enrty, location, etc ... |

i dont understand why ATM desighn falls into the business category...Product maybe? |

But would I still get candy if my ATM account was empty? |
You'd have to give back candy with each transaction if you were in debt. |

There are a couple of ATM's inside my university. At least once a year there's a stupid employee from the bank which loads the wrong bills inside the ATM. The last time it happened, about 5 months ago, I could see a really long line to take money out the ATM and no wonder: people were getting $500 from every $50 they cashed out. |

I think that's better than a chocolate bar! |
Theres a couple of problems here, first of all, on account of my overdraft, I would have to give the bank gifts, and secondly I think everyone really knows that they are paying for it..... |
