More of a question than an idea because Im not seeing that this has been done, though its probably been proposed.
Not an urn, glass orb or even concrete sculpture, this would look like a Roman stone statue that would actually be the person in stone that was liquified and molded.
Im chilling
at the beach, not gonna spend too much time on this.

Hah, my "introspective memorial block" (link in category list above right) predates that patent by over a year. |
Hey doc, how about we make some cremain-concrete statues of people lying down, then bury them in graveyards? That'll really confuse archaeologists in the distant future. |
Actually specified no concrete but we go with stone Im in. |
And that reminds me of my favorite idea. (Link) |

//I'd guess - even without looking for prior art - that the basic idea goes back even further.// |
You'd think so, wouldn't you?
I assume I did a search at the time, though, and didn't find anything matching my idea precisely. Not conclusive, of course, but if people are applying for patents on cremain bricks so recently, it's presumably not widely known to exist, at the very least. |

Oh, I see - I misunderstood that. You want to melt rock and then add the cremains.
It's harder work, but I think it's doable. |
There's some refining process which involves melting rock - a metal ore, I think, to get the metal out. They pour the 'lava' out later - it's basically a waste product but you can grind it up to make... an abrasive or something.
Anyway, it's really tough rock.
So you could take your cremains there, add them to a small batch of lava and pour into a suitable mould. Much more efficient. |

I don't think it was from iron ore. Possibly nickel. |
But yes, if you could get a nice glassy slag that could work quite well. |
2- Slag sounds like a nasty insult. |
"Oh, so-and-so? Total slag." |
(re link) Yea, thought slag was too good an insult to not be out there already. |
