Frodocopier

 low height photocopier for hobbits and small people

There's a myriad of domestic appliances which are not designed for small people, wheelchair users, or young people. Most of them you can work around (PCs, washing machines, ovens etc.), but photocopiers are typically designed so you have to be at lease 4 and a half foot tall.
I therefore propose a photocopier where the scanning unit/document feeder is height adjustable, thus including these so far excluded individuals.

       Seems like it would be quite doable with digital copiers. In the U.S. there is a thing called ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) which has a lot to say about the accessibility of work places and public spaces to the disabled (sorry if that's not the currently acceptable term). I'd be surprised if this wasn't somehow covered in there.

       I like it. It should be feasible with things like photocopiers. Our lab on the other hand is designed by tall people for tall people, which means the benches and sinks are all taller than I would like. This is less easy to fix (so I just get my students to do my washing up)

       [Dr C] small all-in-one printers are only 14" high but large office photocopiers of the kind needed for copying large volumes/double sided etc are invariably much higher.

       yeah, the idea is to have a low height, or lowerable height scanner on a standard, full function device. I'm happy that there are some low height devices around, but not ones that do everthing a normal copier does.

       Large office photocopiers are (in this large office, at least) only large because they sit on top of the cabinet bit which holds spare paper and such. The actual photocopier bit is only about (walks over to machine with a ruler) 15" including the multi-feed bit on the top. It could just as easily sit on a low-ish desk for the ease of the small or chair-bound.

A for instance: A new ATM has been installed round the corner from my house. It is so low - lower than is required for wheelchair access - that I have to squat like I am taking a shit in a french toilet if I am to even see the screen and keypad. And it's right next to a busy bus stop, so there's always a crowd of cig-stunted troglodytes to stare and point at me.		   

       I like the mental image of adjacent full size and fun size but otherwise identical 'copiers in an office, with short and tall able to work simultaneously, so croissant.

       The age old battle of tall-versus-short will not be solved. There is always the average to make both extremities unhappy. We cannot reasonably assume vendors and employees will all have the funds neccesary to accommodate the gamut of height that comprises our society, therefore there will most likely be strain on some of its members.
I wish for all short people that they could see at concerts. I wish for tall people that they would never have to take long trips in hard, right angles. I wish for average folks that they wouldn't... well ... I guess the average folks have it easy, don't they?
