Freshen-Up
When you just need a quick scrub before meeting someone important | |
This surely must exist somewhere...but hey...
You had an important meeting today, but had to leave in a rush this morning cos you were going to miss the train. You arrive in the station in a hurried mess... you go to the toilet in the station (if it has one) and make do with the crappy sink. Despite
your best efforts you arrive at work looking somewhat unprofessional and get sacked for being a tinker.
To avoid this I propose a washroom-style place where for a small fee there is a shower and/or a basin, a towel and a selection of toiletries. It would be ideal in train or bus stations. Pay a deposit for a towel and a sum for a shower (hot water).
Go to that meeting / date fully prepared to put on a sweet-smelling charm offensive!

Imagine giving out coupons to the place as gifts... |

I knew they existed at truck stops. I'm kinda surprised I couldn't find a bus terminal that had showers. There are also a few airports (big ones) that have public showers available, too. |
I think it's real funny that we all have our own bathroom we use for 1 up to 3% of the day. I use the public shower in the harbor because it has an industrial size boiler, 45 min for 1$ and get's cleaned 6 time's a day. This idea saves time! Croissant. |

Big apologies... I'm a bit slow at times. Please forgive the fact that it is almost an identical idea except with less detail and thought behind it. Feel free to imagine that the votes cast here are yours. I even thought of a potential coin-op idea...but that was yours too. Your idea even has better comedy potential, where somebody's coin credit could run out and the automatic doors open - regardless of your state of dress. |

[bobofthefuture]'s idea is for a carwash-like timed shower booth. Sufficiently different from this idea, I feel, as this idea has no time limit, is maintained by humans and provides towels, etc.. |

A croissant-style telephone skin for you, ¯Jinbish, for describing a *tolerable* lifestyle, adding to my homesick nostalgia, and suggesting it could be made better, simply. |

Some UK motorway service stations have these places, mostly directed toward the needs of loing distance truck drivers. |
But I think it is a very good idea, as long as the cost can be kept within reason. Croissant. |

Second thoughts: Mind you, this was baked about 2000 years ago, in the form of Roman public baths. |
Well ok - washing is not a new concept. But I suggest that a public washroom, available to all for a small fee, with basic toiletries and a hot shower; with a paid attendent (not a slave) at destinations is new. |
Innovation isn't necessarily a new idea - more often it is an old idea, thought of in a new way - or applying the idea in a previously unthought location. |
I concede that these may exist...for truckers etc - but the key concept is that you or I could have the need/want of 'freshening up'. I'm not a long distance driver - but I'll admit that some days I could do with a quick scrub before coming in to the office. I also, however, admit that an alarm clock would get me to the train on time and negate need of 'freshen-up'. you win. |

I've seen public showers in Union Station for the Amtrack
customers as well as the truck stops which was
mentioned earlier. |
What I'm wondering is why you don't just take a shower at
home before you go out? Other than camping I can't
imagine a situation where this wouldn't do the trick. |
I generally do have shower before going out...(the smell isn't me, honest). But there have been times when I have been late and runnning for train (and breaking sweat), or been in a rainshower and become deshevelled. I have arrived where I want to go and felt like a mess.
With this idea I could compose myself in a well equipped wash room. Just for a minute or two to either dry off with a towel, take a quick shower or use some deodorant.
I concede that it might not be a viable idea in that the majority of people may never need it and those people like me probably wouldn't need it often enough to generate revenue. |
