Fishbone Magnet

Use the large quantities of lead and mercury in fish

Eating fish can be dangerous and even fateful (read Salmon Rushdie...)

In order to make it safer simply pass a device with a gaussmeter and it will tell you if and where the bones are concentrated. I'm assuming that the heavy metal is stored mostly in the bones. It may be even plausible to add a strong magnet that will pull the bones out of the fish.

Once a prototype is built and proves the concept, the patent could be given to your country, and they could make a law, forcing large lunch rooms and wedding halls to buy one.

Many of the ideas I post here are fishbone magnets.
doctorremulac3, Dec 26 2010

       // heavy metal //

There is a limited amount of time before the Heat Death of this Universe. Please, try to understand the relationship between Ferromagentism, Paramagnetism and Diamagnetism before that time arrives, particularly regarding their relationships to magnetic and non-magnetic materials.

You have about 17 billion of your Earth years. Our advice is: start now.

//assuming that the heavy metal is stored mostly in the bones.//

       This explains the head banging.

       //Our advice is: start now.//

       Hahahaha!

Congratulations on a title that describes this idea exquisitely well.
baconbrain, Dec 27 2010

       thanks brain.

pocmloc, perhaps a magnet can help your resistance?

8th, you forgot to mention cro-magnonitism as well as magnautism.
pashute, Dec 27 2010

There's also Fridge-magnetism, a contagious suburban disease that causes sufferers to attach annoyingly cutesy trinkets to domestic appliances.

And there's Magentism, but that's a topic of a different colour altogether.

dr. but you erased them all! (I looked it up but still don't get what remulac is... A village in France and?)
pashute, Jan 03 2011

and then there is simple Mangatism (a $3.6B market in 2007 according to wikipedia)

At one time there was a bun here. No? Is there a way to see an entry's history?
pashute, Feb 11 2011

       Try the Wayback Machine?

       Maybe a strong centerfuge...
RayfordSteele, Feb 11 2011

// Is there a way to see an entry's history? //

For this one, no. But you can, if you wish, see its future - as it heads down, down, forever down, into the abyss, the very Marianas trench of fishbones ..... the undiscovered country, from whose bourn no traveller returns ....
8th of 7, Feb 11 2011

       a. now a bun magically re-appeared.

       b. No way to know its future. Meanwhile it looked like it would be forever stagnant at 8 bones, but then lately there were some changes, freeing this idea back into its magnetic path downward.

"It has been suggested [said the writer] that a means of causing magnetic mines to explode harmlessly may be found by attaching small but strong permanent magnets to flat fish, and distributing these fish over die sea bottom. The fish, moving in search of food, would, at short range, bring mines under the influence of a magnetic field and consequently cause explosion. The questions are (i) Whether the influence of a magnet which could be carried by a fish would be effective; and (a) Whether the scheme is possible from the 'fish' point of view.

The writer plainly had doubts about "the 'fish' point of view," but he had, he confided, been encouraged by an optimistic opinion"

I suspect reverse psychology at work here, after all it has been incredibly useful in collecting fishbones. Is the some online MMORG where HB fishbones are worth something and we are making pashute rich?

14 people (as of Feb 25th) won't be that costly. But also don't make me bone rich yet :-(
pashute, Feb 25 2011

....cuts to the year 2024, spokesperson for [insert financial regulation authorities in your own country] says " the present turmoil in the global financial system is due to the collapse of the HB fishbones futures market, which was impossible to foresee"
not_morrison_rm, Feb 25 2011

... meanwhile on conspiracy blogs, evidence is uncovered of ideas posted solely to harvest bones. These "toxic ideas" are said to have been re-packaged and sold on to unsuspecting newbies.

.... while in a secure compound at Guantanomo Bay, [pashute] is accidentally served kippers for breakfast, immediately experiences a psychotic break, and eats his own fingers ....

This idea is not serving its purpose. Someone reversed their vote, and now there are 2 (two) buns. Somehow the magnet lost its pull? For religious reasons I avoid eating milk chocolate with fish.
pashute, Feb 27 2011

Letter to halfbakers from Guantanamo (13 years from now, 2 and a half years after half of Japan connects with the Mediterranean sea ).

Dear half friends: Luckily you are reading half-leaks, the remaining uncensored website. Please send me books about paramagnetism. We don't have internet, and looking at the fish is very boring. Its kind of gloomy here, and the mercury covered walls don't help.
