Firework revolver

Formally: Rocket Propelled Firework

Well it’s the 4th again and everybody is enjoying fireworks. The one most common work utilized is the mortar style color shells. You drop a shell with attached propellant on the bottom down a cardboard tube. There is an extra long fuse protruding from the top of the tube. My idea is to make a rapid fire handheld launcher. Essentially a huge revolver, it would hold 1 shell in each of its 6 rotating chambers. The tube would be metal, the revolving part metal as well. As for ignition, I suggest a jet flame, constantly burning and moveable when fired. There is a pistol grip parallel to the launch tube and under the combustion chamber. A second grip extends below the middle of the launch tube. Everything is controlled by a trigger mounted with the main pistol grip. A rapid fire, electronically controlled, firework firearm. I can see this is my head, can you?

And there is a mercury switch integrated to prevent shooting at the ground, for safety

i guess i missed the rocket propelled part of this idea.

Perhaps he posted it from across the international date line?

You people care too much about semantics. Does anybody like the idea of being able to safely and rapidly fire shell type fireworks from a handheld launcher? Thats my idea. Did you read it? [theleopard] I typed this WHILE FIREING FIREWORKS during a 4th of july party. Guess it was late. JFC

Explain the 'safely' part again, please.

Metal tube for the combustion chamber, vs. holding the cardboard tube the firework comes with

       Well *I* liked it.

I'm just not sure about this one. If it would really be safer. It might be funner though...

       SP: combustion, rapid, FIRING,

I'm pretty sure that rocket propelld fire works exist.

Perhaps you might change the name to a rocket revolver, as that sounds like the main selling point of this idea.

All the same, it sounds a lot like a flare gun, there's probably a reason those are not marketed for celebrating the fourth. Call me a fuddy-duddy, but I can just watch the displays the cities put on, and not worry about causing brush fires.

(I'm assuming [jutta]) that just makes more sense.
evilpenguin, Jul 07 2007

I'm just saying that if the name of the idea is Rocket Propelled XYZ then I would expect to see a rocket propulsion system somewhere in the idea. Your mode of propulsion is clearly a bullet or cartridge type which shares more in common with a mortar than it does with a rocket and so as such I seem to have missed the rocket propelled connection in your idea.
jhomrighaus, Jul 07 2007

Okay, everyone is yelling that this isn't a rocket. It isn't. Sorry about the confusion. The corralation to rocketry is the gun design itself. It would look identical to a actual RPG launcher. The difference being that mine shoots color balls and the other gernades.
evilpenguin, Jul 07 2007

       gerades?????

// Did you read it? //

Nope. Was in a rush. Needed to anno. Now that I have, I can see this is my head. [+] if you can get it to work, because it would be cool.
theleopard, Jul 09 2007

Brilliant - although it wont be available in the UK due to the fire arm laws. It promotes weapons in an attractive manner - which is bad. It would actually be classed as a weapon. Shoulder mounted tube firing exlpoding rockets! This influences my vote sorry Chief its a minus from me.

       gernades????
jhomrighaus, Jul 10 2007

One of the reason molar launcing is safe is b/c it's in a fixed position. it can be aimed so the 'works can explode in a safe area. if you have something that is handheld, there's more chances of the aim being off & shooing into danger. "Watch out, little Billy"

       Can we all have gyrojets?
normzone, Jul 10 2007

Some groups of vandalising teens (or drunken people) would wreck havoc with those their cool but totally unsafe sorry to by a spoil sport but it really is no call to have such a unsafe firework round :-( Nice thinking but I'm giving you a (-) if you want me to change my vote add a safety feature like a mercury switch to allow it to only fire up to its description and I'll give you a (+) Thanks,

       [FDS] Me thinks, firework safety

       I like oxymoron’s too
evilpenguin, Aug 31 2007

Neat, but why have it be handheld? That sounds dangerous, even with a mercury switch.... I give you a [+] but you'd wanna be careful with that.
