Put fire-fighting equipment on every house. Not only can you put out fires in your neighbors houses but you can also zap Jehovahs witnesses and door to door salesman.
Blame goes to The Military for his original Idea (see link) and UnaBubba who thought this should be a separate idea.
* OK
I give up every 3rd house it is - are you people happy now that you have damaged my brilliant idea...
This does give some government agency the fun job of deciding which house is the 3rd one though... *

No, I said every 3rd house but think about the poor guy who doesn't have the protection from insurance sales men... |
No I am talking about turret mounted water cannons on every house in.... THE WORLD |
also as they are linked directly to the water suply they are never empty when you need them.... you just run up huge water bills (recoverable if you can prove it was a real emergency) |
Robert, the imagery of every third house was "mad and beautiful". Now you're just scaring me. |
...and a random house in every 100 houses has its fire-fighting system filled with kerosene. |
[hippo] Now that would be funny... Not quite the efect I was trying for though... |
Now about this every 3rd house thing - what if the owners of the houses within range are away when yours catches fire... that wouldnt be very nice and your other neighbours wouldn't be able to soak people.... So I propose a compromise: the government pays for every 3rd house to have water cannons, the 2nd house can buy one at a discount due to government subsidies and the 1st house could buy one but would have to pay full price... |
you can't put a value on human lives... also the repaires to damaged property would not be needed... |
This would be GREATLY misused. I speak this knowing that I myself would misuse this. Hell, even Peter Sealy told us HE misused this. |
thats the idea.... but you have to pay for the water if you cant prove it was an emergency... posibly by having a camera on the end of the hose? |
Unit has Alarm which must be activated before fire fighting equipment can be used - no real delay - just a pull alarm:
Result: A)Alarm to Fire Dept. B)Use firefighting equipment supplied until... C)Fire Dept. arrives and is set to battle blaze D)Shell of structure and contents thereof sustain less fire damage E)Applicable financial charges accountable by meter reading F)Fifteen minutes of Fame on TV G)Stock of firefighting apparatus Company goes up H)Afro redesigns Exploding Pen |

I gave this a positve vote and it got a quassant
I suggest that it could be like a pay phone
pay hose??? you have to but 10p for 10mins???
dunno how 'bout it??? |
I sugested earlier that it should be free during emergencies... maybe if you use it iresponsibley it is taken off you and given to your next door neighbour... after all only one in three needs it... |
I think this expects too much altruism. |
If you have the water cannon on your house, it's not much good to you as it squirts water away from your property and toward your neighbours. Great for summer evenings when they have their stereo too loud; but if your own property is on fire, it's of little help. Plus you get people hammering on your door wanting to use the kit just because their house is burning down. |
But I do find the idea of a high pressure water jet in a directional turret extremely appealing for many other reasons .... here, kitty kitty. |
A better idea would be a directional jet on the top of every lamp post. You could even boost the mains pressure with a vertical turbine in the shaft of the post, powered by electricity. When someone dials emergency, the local control room enables the lamps in the immediate vicinity; bystanders could then direct the jets onto the affected property, or if as I suspect they are soewhat less altruistic, douse their own properties with water to prevent the fire spreading. |
