Fast Room

A pay bathroom chain based on cleanliness and speed

Many public bathrooms stink, literally and figuratively. We won't even get into public showers (even places like Japan where they are common public showers could be cleaner.) This bathroom works off of the fast food system of, nothing fancy, high volume and always (relatively) clean.

Flowchart goes something like this:

You wait in the lines until you get up to the front and pay for what you want. You get a number.

You pay the equivalent for 2 USD to use the bathroom. The bathroom attendants find a space for you and clean it up. They radio your number and you go in.

Or you pay 6 USD or equivalent for for a shower and a room just big enough for a sink and changing area. Towels and soap provided with the cost. Hot water on a timer, extra money can bring up the time.

10 USD for a family sized room with sink, shower, and toilet stall.

Things one can order on the side would be hygiene products, cologne/ perfume and make-up.

Such chains could even open up in stadiums feasably with commercial promotions by sports celebrities.

In Europe you get what are called super-loos.

They are automatic toilets that you pay to enter and that are washed down after each visit. I've been in one that was entirely made of stainless steel and had a fold-down lever over a hole in the floor as the loo. These loos meet your cleaniness and speed requirement although they obviously lack the luxury.

"Europe" huh? Are you sure you don't mean "prison?"

There's a place similar to what [Aristotle] mentions in the main Hanover train station. It's called McClean, though I don't wish to think of its connection to the manufacturer of Big Macs.

Here is another idea which they had in _Snow Crash_, the novel. It was a chain offering 4 levels of bathrooming experience. The lowest level was like the crapper in a public park.

Isn't $2.00 a lot to pay just to use a toilet - clean or otherwise?

Not if you gotta go. It's the ultimate captive audience.

They also said to the creator of Starbucks that $2.00 was $1.50 more than people would spend on coffee.

Good idea...people would probably dish out the cash too! I would! Plus I buy Starbucks, so ...yeah I would!

[sartep] is describing something which exists widely ... but not widely enough for his tastes. I believe this really truly is baked if not accessible to all.
