False Interior Window Projection Device

Make The Neighbors Jealous

Sometimes when I go for a walk in the evening, I cannot help but notice the well-lit interiors of my neighbors homes. It is a sad fact that there are relatively few of them that inspire, or generate admiration for the good taste displayed within. Makes me want to run home and pull my shades before I put up the lights. A built-in 3-d projection unit within the window that displays a view of a beautiful room would make my walk more pleasant, make others envious, and assuage my guilt at being a peeping tom if the idea takes hold (I won't know if I"m looking at the real thing or not). The pictures could be changed to reflect holiday themes, parties and the like (although a party would have to be done as a movie, but that's not impossible). The view would be shot from different angles to add to the realism.

I think this is what bristolz is referring to. I would vote for surrealism of any sort in the window projection. [sappho, Mar 20 2002, last modified Oct 04 2004]

good idea...but I want my place to look like a slum with cheap furniture and velvet Elvis paintings on the walls so no burgler would even think of dropping by....

I think maybe a projection of some ferocious pack of animals such as lions, wolves, or velociraptors would be nice for vacation time. Of course, it helps to have the ultimate sound system inside to go along with the visual effect!

[runforrestrun] Nice try at implying that your place doesn't already look like a slum with cheap furniture and velvet Elvis paintings.

       I would project either:

- a live video feed of the the view out the other side of the house (so it looks as though the house is just a front, like a movie prop), -or-

- the interior of a "caveman" dwelling, complete with open fire, wall paintings, animal skins, etc., -or-

- a moonscape

A night time scene in the day and vice versa; it could look a bit like a Magritte especially if the synthetic view "in" to the house included views "out" of other windows. Think how odd it would look to peer into another home at night and realize that all of their windows are looking out at a daylight scene.

Actually, [sappho], I was referring to the entirety of Magritte's work and sensibilities but the image you link to illustrates it pretty well.

we'll straighten him out between us, bliss.

I love the Magritte angle. Speaking of angles... I'd have mine project the room exactly as it is, only turned 90° (anti)counter-clockwise.

I drive through Beverly Hills - at least once - 5 nights a week. Man! Some folks are making a profit! About 1/3 keep their lights on in their "showcase" rooms - though I've yet to see an actual human figure in any of those spaces - unless - there is a party.
