Expensive, difficult, slightly dangerous, not particularly effective... I'm on a roll.

prisoners toss a plastic egg filled with nitroglycerin back and forth until one is blown up. Any one cheating by throwing a line drive is tied to an ant nest.

There is a [public:capital punishment] idea category, where this idea would fit in really well: it's packed with fishbones just like this idea soon will be.

Dan Simmon's Schroedinger Execution Chamber is the best idea on the subject, I think

Use tiny eggs that blow them up finger by finger. Q: How do you get birds to lay eggs filled with nitroglycerin?

On bad weather days: Have them blow bubbles with plastic explosive. Whoever blows the biggest bubble without blowing his/her head off gets a week off the sentence.

Ants don't live in hives, they live in nests. Unless, of course, they're posh ants in a museum display or something in which case they really do prefer to have their classy glass residence referred to as a formicarium.

My ants seem to have eaten all my croissants, so there's only a smelly fishbone left for you.
