Empathic Sound System

with Gala control

Many pets are marvelously tuned in to the moods of their owners. Taking advantage of this, I’m developing a sensory harness for my dog Gala. The harness detects a variety of vital signs, such as heart rate, tail wagging, drooling... This data is then beamed real-time to an audio control system which selects music to match Gala’s mood. And Gala’s mood is really a reflection of my mood.

Well, generally. There is the occasional problem. Like, every time I even look in her direction, the air is filled with an explosion of sappy violins...

I just hope you know what you're doing. If Gala responds to the music then you're in danger of creating a positive feedback loop. (wanders off to find out the emotional impedance of a dog). +

I would buy one of these for Harvey, but I just know that if it tuned into his brainwaves, the only music that would ever play on the stereo would be "The Sound of Silence". Or mabe John Cage's "Four Minutes Thirty-Three".........

Hope you never hear the theme from Cujo.

I want one. However, my wife already gets scared when Katy hears something at night. Adding the theme from psycho might not help the situation.

I like this! It gives you a soundtrack for your real life, and your pet sort of becomes a cartoon character with its own "theme". Pretty entertaining. Mostly for me: I have a two dogs and two cats, it would be pretty amazing to hear the darth vader theme when my 8 year old dog starts chasing her 3 year old son. (needless to say, they don't get along pretty well).

8th, I read the story on that piece, and it seems Mr. Cage was quite serious in composing it. The point was to 'shut up and let nature make music'. The length was rather arbitrary, however.
