Since man first crawled into a cave, crumbs (er, bone fragments from the kill, weasel fur, seeds, etc) falling on the floor have been a problem. With the advent of plastic, we modern dudes are at a distinct advantage. I propose a rather stylish dish with roughly half of an Elizabethan collar-funnel that attaches lightly at the neck. Crumbs from food, or errant ketchups, fall onto the collar and hopefully down an attached tube and down onto the dish for easy disposal. Great for couch potatoes and their potato chips. Or the occasional couch tomato. Anybody for tomato chips?

So its like an adult bib?

Sort of. But can your standard bib catch loose cookie crumbs? Your average napkin is usually clumsy for that purpose, as inevitably a few crumbs slip off the napkin.

The Pelican bib can catch most things, and comes with a capacious trough, which can be scooped out with the hand at the end of the meal for a little extra.

Actually, I was thinking the dish would be somewhat reminiscent of a bong in appearance- meaning that you could pass around the plate, and people's crumbs could, I suppose, fall into a communal trough... perfect for those brownies hot from the oven.

Have you tried eating with a plate?
pottedstu, Sep 18 2002

I eat with a beard. Not much hits the floor.

Bad news I'm afraid, [pfp], homo sapiens out-evolved the rest of your species a few milennia ago. Kind of slow to catch on, aren't we.

I wish I wish I wish I could fishbone that anno just for the image it conjures up .......

Yes, sorry about that. It didn't occur to us that you might land on your head. Just be glad we used a safety razor.

Well I second pfperry's anno - plus I think that Miss tomato would look very fetching with a furry chin.
