Probably been baked in the past sometime, but I just thought htis might be worth mentioning. You have your standard fugal exposition, with subject, answers, and a countersubject if you like, followed by episode or transitional passage to a second exposition, with a completely different subject. Another episode or transitional passage leads into the final exposition, where both subjects are combined. One may serve as an answer to the other.

I'll post some links if anyone cares... and I'll try to post a short little ditty which I think would make a great anthem for the Halfbakery website.

[willien] An imitative polyphonic composition in which a theme or themes are stated successively in all of the voices of the contrapuntal structure.

Why not have three subjects and intermingle the passages to mimic a harmonic braid? The center subject carries a consistent theme, and the complimentary subjects weave in and out, alternating their themes.

       What's a polyphonic composition?
spacemoggy, Apr 14 2004

[spacemoggy] Why don't you have a go at making up a ditty, rather than asking for definition? If you're paying ISP time by the minute, I apologize.

Imitation. The overlapping repetition of a melody by two or more "voices." A technique of polyphonic composition.

So it's something like 'Do Re Me' in the Sound of Music, then?

Or like those ones with the vanilla and chocolate swirled together!
